Iatefl ESP SIG

Iatefl ESP SIG A global forum for ESP professionals

The ESP Special Interest Group is one of the 16 SIGs at IATEFL, and its main focus is on English for Specific Purposes, English for Academic Purposes and English for Occupational / professional Purposes. The main objective of IATEFL's SIG in EAP is to disseminate good practice in ESP (as well as EAP and EO/PP ) through its membership and to promote models of excellence in ESP to ELT professionals

in UK and abroad through workshops, seminars and conferences and through publishing the output in our newsletter / journal and leading ELT journals and periodicals.

📣 Your next big ESP collaboration is waiting. Join the ESP Online Open Forum 2025!

Why should you attend? Our enthusiastic colleague, Ioana Crețu, shares her personal experience from last year's event. 👇

Here is what Ioana wants to let you know:

Last year was my first time joining the Online Open Forum organised by IATEFL ESPSIG. In just two hours, the dynamic format allowed me to connect with colleagues from all over the world 🌎.
It was highly engaging, with short, lively presentations. Participants shared their passions and insights succinctly, fostering an environment ripe for follow-up discussions.
What I took away:
• Updates from Express Publishing and colleagues in the UK, Georgia, Saudi Arabia, Austria.
• A reassuring, humanising discussion on imposter syndrome.
• My own brief presentation on transitioning to freelancing sparked several follow-up conversations, leading to connections with professionals, such as a Lithuanian teacher in France!

Now, one year later, I am collaborating with several of these nice people—and that's the whole point of an open forum, is it not?
So, I'll be there again this year! I encourage anyone in ESP to join this FREE event 🥳. It's an excellent opportunity to meet and start collaborations with like-minded professionals. (P.S. You don't have to be a member of IATEFL!)

Want to speak? 🎤
Even better: go ahead and submit a proposal to speak for 5-7 minutes about your passions! I for one am interested in what you have to say.

👉Email your proposal to: [email protected]
Deadline: 14 November, 16.00 UK time.
👉Register here: https://www.iatefl.org/event-details/ #/?id=698
Don't miss it!

• Event: Online Open Forum 2025
• Date: 13 December
• Time: 10.00–12.00 UK time

I look forward to seeing you there!
