🎧 EPISODE / PENNOD 26 🎧

In the latest episode, we’re joined by Ash Cooke of Derrero and Pulco.

Ash talks about the Derrero’s remarkable journey from the late-90s DIY scene to their recent resurgence, his ever-evolving approach to songwriting, and how creativity continues to fuel both his band work and experimental solo releases.

Also, Ash paid tribute to his late friend Dyfrig Evans by choosing Something to Tell Her by Topper as his favourite Welsh album (released via Ankst in 1997).

Our showcase song is Casglu Cwsg by Ifan Rhys.

Many thanks once again to Dr Lucy Bennett for the invite!

Please drop me a message if you would be interested in hosting this lecture on Welsh music history.

Our fab new theme tune is No I in Teams by KEYS!

Taken from their Welsh Music Prize-nominated seventh album Acid Communism via Libertino, the single is about the need to regain human connection in the digital age following the rise of conference calls during the pandemic.

Keys frontman, Matt Evans said: “The emergence of conference calls since COVID has reduced our human relationships to pixels on a screen. Avatars represent ourselves online, while we stay indoors.”

Llongyfarchiadau / congratulations to Don Leisure on winning the Welsh Music Prize 2025 last night for his brilliant album, Tyrchu Sain (Digging Sain).

Cardiff-based producer, Aly Jamal delved deep into the archives of Wales’ iconic label Recordiau Sain (Sain Records), uncovering long-forgotten gems and reinventing them with a fresh perspective.

The album pays tribute to the rich heritage of Welsh music, while reimagining it for a new generation.
