Your personal brand has a funny way of working for you.

In the past week I’ve had referrals from two very different and frankly, quirky sources:

1) A North London Mums’ Chat WhatsApp group
2) A cruise ship sailing from from Lisbon to Portsmouth

Not your standard networking events.

But that’s the point.

When you’ve built authority and a reputation in your field, referrals can come from anywhere and you don't even need to be present.

It’s not about the where. It’s about being known for what you do.

After 16 years freelancing I’ve learned you need to keep putting yourself out there. Whether that’s through social media, newsletters, PR, networking, your website, SEO (and now AEO… ask me about that one!).

In this age of AI, where automation will only increase, the value of human connection goes up: authenticity, testimonials, reviews, and those “in-person” relationships that build trust.

Your reputation IS your referral network.

Guard it, grow it, and the opportunities will find you.

Sometimes from the most surprising places.

What if everyone in the UK had free access to ChatGPT Plus?

It sounds far-fetched, but the Government has actually been looking at a £2bn deal to make it happen.

On one side, it could give the UK a real advantage in Europe by putting advanced AI in everyone’s hands. On the other, we all know there are plenty of areas that desperately need investment first.
