A country pub turning local ingredients into delicious dishes.✨🌟

If you’re local there’s a good chance you already know about The Crown & Thistle, Rockcliffe a traditional pub with and cosy log fires 🔥, and a menu that celebrates the best local ingredients 🌱

🍽️ Their seasonally changing menu keeps things fresh and exciting. On our latest visit, we started with the crispy parmesan & spinach arancini 🧀🌿 and indulgent Cumbrian tartiflette 🥔🧄—perfect for big appetites! For mains, the pulled Cumbrian lamb 🐑 was a winner for both of us, and we ended on a sweet high with an oozing chocolate fondant 🍫🤤.

🍴 A must-visit for those who love great food and warm vibes! 💛

I was lucky enough to be gifted a Rickerby Retreat Spa voucher for Christmas!

After a beautiful massage and an hour enjoying the spa 🧖‍♀️💆‍♀️, I’d really worked up an appetite, so I popped up to Rickerby Bistro

They have a really varied menu for all times of day and even an elegant afternoon tea option 🍰☕.

We ordered the Moroccan chicken flatbread 🥙 and avocado on toast 🥑.

I absolutely loved their proper loose-leaf tea 🍵 and was so impressed by their dishes' flavour and portion sizes! 👌✨

✨ Loved every bite of our In The Meantime meal! ✨

This cool indie restaurant and bar is all about serving up local ingredients with a creative twist. From juicy burgers to bold Asian-inspired dishes, there’s something for everyone— they even do a Sunday roast (which I’m already planning to try next time)!

We couldn’t resist sharing their 4 for £25 starter platter to start, though my greedy brother had one all to himself as a main. 🙃

Our standout bites? The teriyaki pork and Korean chicken stole the show, but honestly, everything was bursting with flavor. Highly recommend! 🌟

🍕 Attention Pizza Lovers! 🍕

Say hello to Urban Wood Fire where authentic Neapolitan-style pizzas are served straight from a converted horse trailer! 🐴🔥

They’re the perfect choice for private events, and you can also catch them popping up in Houghton, Creighton RFC, and Brampton—regularly bringing the pizza party to you! 🎉

The menu’s always evolving with fresh specials. We couldn’t resist the double pepperoni, BBQ chicken, and The Festive (yep, that’s pigs-in-blankets on a pizza! 🐷).

All on a super tasty crust —ideal to warm you up this chilly season! 🥶🍕

If you're in Penrith, don't miss Oswald’s at Cranstons nestled above the Cranstons Food Hall.

With a cozy and inviting atmosphere, it's the perfect spot to enjoy a delicious lunch, sip on a hot drink, and indulge in a tempting slice of cake. 🍰

They’re serving up fresh, tasty options daily from 8 AM–4:30 PM Monday to Saturday, and 10 AM–3:30 PM on Sundays.

Fair warning, it's impossible to resist getting a treat after you walk past their bakes counter! 😋

Cumbrian Tapas

One of my go-to spots in Carlisle for a fun and flavour-packed night out with friends is The Shabby. Their tapas menu never disappoints—there’s something for everyone, and it’s perfect for sharing! 😋

We ordered nearly everything on the menu between 6 of us 😂 But if I had to pick, my absolute must-haves are: The Suiza, Nachos, and the deep-fried halloumi 🧀✨

Boxing Day Feed!

Visited the beautiful Hidden River Cafe for a walk along the river then 3 course meal from their festive menu

Started with carrot & coriander soup with warm focaccia, a beef sarnie with fries, and fish & chips with a perfect batter. Finally we shared the tangy smooth lemon posset.

The staff are always so lovely, for the dog lovers there's usually a 4 legged visitor or two! Can't wait to visit them at Barn when they move in January

The much anticipated Cafe on the green , Houghton 💚

I stopped by after they'd finished food service, but there was an incredible counter of bakes to choose from and local loose-leaf tea to warm me up ☕

It's easy to see that they're taking a lot of pride in good quality ingredients. The staff were really friendly and after seeing their food menu I've already arranged to meet a friend for lunch next week!

🐕 Oh and they're super dog-friendly which is always a plus in my eyes!
