MC LowQui 🎤
The complete MC, LowQui is a genuine host, lyricist, and audience entertainer. Regarded by many as a true DJ’s MC, his ability to read crowds, compliment mix structures, and facilitate the transfer of en- ergy between DJ and audience is second to none. Now deep into his second decade as an MC, LowQui has continuously worked on a global scale as MC of choice for the best. The Metalheadz family, Goldie, S.P.Y, Andy C, DJ Marky, dBridge, Black Sun Empire, Skream, Benga, Storm, the list goes on.
Earning his stripes in the 90s London club/rave circuit, LowQui took his inspiration from the legendary double-time raps of Stevie Hyper D (RIP) and the razor sharp lyrical delivery of MC GQ. Merging both with the concepts of harmony and balance, he forged his distinctive LowQui sound.
LowQui breaks down the barrier between performer and attendee like no other. He is the quintessential DIY junglist. In the game for life, LowQui will be toasting microphones until the end of his days. LowQui’s journey through breakbeat and drum & bass began back in the days of the UK hardcore scene, when the emerging sounds of jungle introduced a new wave of ragga-influenced toasting and hosting in London’s raves and club nights. Inspired lyrically by the changing face of the city around him, LowQui developed his own style to bring conscious lyrics with maximum effect on the dance floor.
This notion of balance and harmony is at the core of LowQui’s style on the mic and comes from a philosophy embedded in all that he does: no wonder then that the regular London club night he helped to establish back in 2004 is named Essence of Chi. His skills on the mic extend beyond club nights and live arenas and, as such, LowQui has laid down vocals for studio mixes from DJs ranging from Rohan to Kane. He appeared on the Mixed and Dispatched mix CD for Dispatch Records head Ant TC1 and the ATM magazine cover CD with Artificial Intelligence. This was followed by an Essence of Chi mix for Knowledge magazine with DJ Kane. LowQui provided vocals for DJ Amaning’s studio mix CD featuring tracks from his label BIOS, and also introduced Goldie’s “Watch the ride” mix CD. A versatile live MC, LowQui has worked with a diverse range of crews and record labels including Metalheadz, Exit Records, Movement & Liquid V, Drum and Bass Arena, Non-Vogue, Bassbin Records, Widescreen Recordings, Integral, Digital Soundboy and Cyberfunk Records. An MC with a long air-miles history, LowQui has toured all over the world with Metalheadz boss and drum & bass legend Goldie. Throughout 2010 and 2011, LowQui continued his extensive travels abroad from his bases in Australia and New Zealand, and worked closely with New Zealanders ‘The Upbeats’ on their live shows and DJ performances. LowQui also hosted for the likes of Goldie, Andy C, Klute, Break, Fierce, Skream, Benga, Nu:Tone and many more as they passed through Australia and New Zealand. On top of his busy MC schedule, LowQui has been honing his production skills, with col- laborations alongside Australian producer Hooves and South Korea’s J-Path receiving DJ support from the likes of Black Sun Empire and DJ Presha.
