Residents' fire fears after green not cut all year

Residents are concerned that a fire might start due to the length and dryness of a nearby green.

Jeannette Russell Davies said the patch of grass outside her house in Churchill Grove, Tewkesbury, has not been cut "at all" since 2024, with neighbour Ken Radbourne branding it "a wasteland".

Tewkesbury Borough Council (TBC) cut the grass on some Gloucestershire County Council (GCC) land between eight and 12 times annually before that arrangement ended earlier this year. It had expected GCC to take the work on.

GCC said its financial challenges meant it could not maintain that level of cuts but was committed to helping TBC explore alternative approaches.

Huge canalside solar farm bid near M5 sparks massive public outcry amid Severn Vale flooding fears.

Controversial plans to build a huge solar farm next to Gloucester and Sharpness canal have sparked hundreds of objections.

A proposal to install photovoltaic panels on more than 117 acres of farmland in open countryside in the Lower Severn Valley has been submitted to Stroud District Council.

More than 260 public comments have been made to Stroud District Council with one objector saying the area between the A38 at Morton Vallance and the River Serven is “already inundated with solar power plants”.

“It is unreasonable to impose yet another on those of us who live in this area,” they said.

Former Bristol Rovers, Burnley and Northampton Town left-back Ali Koiki given Cheltenham Town chance.

Left-back Ali Koiki is set to play a part in Cheltenham Town's behind-closed-doors friendly against Brentford B on Monday.

The 25-year-old free agent has spent the last four seasons at Northampton Town, after spells with Bristol Rovers and Burnley. He has also spent time on loan at Swindon Town.

His 2024/25 campaign was heavily disrupted by injury, restricting him to two starts and three appearances from the bench for League One Northampton.

Fears consultation on 13k homes and TWO new towns will be 'slipped past the public'

There are concerns a development blueprint for 13,000 new homes and the creation of two new towns in rural Gloucestershire will be “slipped past the public” as the consultation mostly takes place during the summer holidays.

The Forest of Dean District Council is having to rethink its local plan which sets out where new developments are provided by 2043 due to the Government increasing their new homes target of 82 per cent.
