Just a little check-in, hope everyone is keeping well! We just wanted to say how much we are loving researching your beautiful homes. Every week we’re uncovering stories that make us laugh, gasp, and sometimes even stop for a little tear, it really is such a privilege to help connect you with the people who lived in your houses before you.

One little reminder though: unfortunately, we won’t be able to research living people for you. We’re all about history, not detective work in the present day. Tempting as it is to go full Sherlock Holmes on your neighbour, we’d rather stick to the centuries-old mysteries.

And as much as we’d both love to see this page really gather momentum, we also don’t fancy being the subject of a Netflix documentary in a year’s time. Neither of us are good on camera — trust us, you’d turn it off in the first five minutes! We’ll stick to the archives, the dusty newspapers, and the family tales instead.

Thank you so much for all the support, the kind words, and for trusting us with your house histories. You’ve kept us busy, curious, and endlessly entertained — and we wouldn’t have it any other way!

✨ The weekend has slipped away again, and here we are at the doorway of another busy week! ✨

We’ve had such fun wandering (virtually, of course!) through your beautiful homes, piecing together stories and uncovering the hidden history tucked away in old deeds, census returns, and yellowed newspapers. Please rest assured that if you’re waiting to hear from us, we haven’t forgotten you. We’re still dipping in and out of research in between our own day jobs, balancing dusty archives with the daily grind ☕📜.

Most importantly, we want to say a huge thank you. The kind words, encouragement, and lovely messages we’ve received from you all recently have given us such a confidence boost. It honestly means the world to know that what we’re doing brings joy and connection to people and their homes.

Here’s to another week of detective work, family tales, and mysterious houses with stories waiting to be told. 🕵️‍♀️🏡💫

We love helping people discover the stories behind their homes, and we’re always happy to offer a free “House history snapshot”. It’s designed to give you a starting point that you can then build on with your own research.

We can’t usually track down things like architectural drawings, floorplans, the original developer, or the original selling agent, but we can share glimpses into the lives of some of the people who once lived in your home, quite often even photographs of these occupants. 🏡

There are specialist companies out there that may be able to dig deeper into those other details, if that is what you are truly after, but please note their services come at a cost.

And just a little ask for patience, we fit this in around work, family, and everyday life, often on Sundays, lunch breaks, and evenings. So please be kind.
Thank you for giving us the chance to share in your house history journey! 💛

👻 Well hello there, curious souls!

Welcome to The Finders of Lost Things!
Where we rummage around in the past to dig up the stories hiding in your floorboards, wallpaper, and sometimes even your coal shed. We track down the names, occupations, dramas and delights of the people who lived in your house long before you (don’t worry, we only haunt the records office, not your spare bedroom).

We’ve been absolutely chuffed to bits with all the lovely feedback we’ve had so far, thank you! Every kind word keeps us fuelled through long nights squinting at 19th-century handwriting that looks like a spider had too much sherry.

So settle in, grab a cuppa, and join us for tales of your house’s past. Who knows what we’ll find? Former bakers? Candle makers? A Victorian who once complained about the neighbour’s cow? (It happens more than you’d think) 🐮
