Enjoy the Sunshine Safely โ๏ธ
With temperatures set to soar, it's the perfect excuse to enjoy everything Chichester has to offer. Whether you're heading to the beach, relaxing in the garden, heading in to the city to enjoy a coffee or meal, or perhaps you are off exploring the countryside with your four-legged friend, a little preparation can help everyone stay safe and comfortable during the heatwave.
Stay Cool and Hydrated
Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty. Try to avoid strenuous activities during the hottest part of the day, usually between 11am and 3pm. Lightweight clothing, sunscreen and a shady spot can make all the difference when the mercury climbs.
Looking After Your Dogs ๐พ
Our canine companions can struggle in hot weather. Always ensure fresh water is available and avoid walking dogs during the middle of the day. Early morning or evening strolls are much safer.
Remember:
Never leave a dog in a parked , unattended car, even for a few seconds!
Check pavements with the back of your hand. If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for their paws. Walks can wait!
Watch for signs of overheating, such as excessive panting, drooling or lethargy.
Give Wildlife a Helping Hand ๐ฆ๐
Hot weather can be just as challenging for local wildlife. A simple bowl or shallow plastic tub of fresh water can provide a much-needed lifeline for birds, hedgehogs, bees and other garden visitors.
To make it safe:
Add a few stones or pebbles to the water.
Ensure insects can climb out easily if they land in the water.
Refresh the water daily to keep it clean and cool. And if possible, pop in a shaded but apparent area.
Even a small water station can make a big difference during prolonged periods of hot weather.
Keep an Eye on Neighbours, friends and Family โค๏ธ
Heatwaves can be particularly difficult for older people, young children and those with underlying health conditions. A quick phone call or visit to check someone is staying cool and hydrated can be a simple act of kindness that means a great deal.
Enjoy the sunshine, stay safe, and let's help make this heatwave a comfortable one for everyone, including our pets and local wildlife. โ๏ธ๐ฟ๐พ๐ฆ
