It takes a short moment to appreciate the area we live in.

After a very busy spell with work and  , I finally took some time on Sunday morning to go for a walk around my village with Lydi (my better half!).

The morning sun was out, the air was calm, and I couldn’t help but stop and appreciate just how lucky we are to live here. Having spent most of my life between West and East Wittering, it’s still humbling to think I get to call this place home.

Why Black Magic?

I wanted to tell the story behind the name of my studio, which comes from my grandfather’s favourite model plane, the Flair Black Magic. He taught me to fly it, and naming my company after it felt like the best way to keep his spirit in the skies.

Filming this was its own challenge, shooting on two cameras (FX3 + A7III), trying to match colours, and making do with very limited lighting. I also had to teach myself how to sync everything in Premiere Pro (thank you YouTube).

The real test though? Talking about something personal on camera.

First Festival – ☑️

We had an amazing time flying at our very first festival at

Before the gates opened we sent the FPV drone around the site to capture some dynamic shots, then switched to wide cinematic footage with the Mini 3 Pro once the field filled up with families, food, and fun.

Operating in a tight space with crowds + livestock wasn’t easy, but with a brilliant spotter () keeping us safe, we nailed it.

Huge thanks to Beth and the team for having us and if you haven’t been yet, Sky Park Farm is well worth the visit!

What happens when you combine FPV drones, cine drones, onboard cameras, and videography?

A wrap video full of energy, speed, and community spirit for !

We recently had the privilege of supporting Sage House at their ever-growing Goodwood Motor Circuit track day. Our goal was to capture the thrill of the cars, the joy of the day, and most importantly, the community that makes this event so special.

By blending multiple filming techniques, from FPV and cinematic drones to onboard cameras and ground videography, we were able to showcase both the excitement of the track and the heartfelt message behind the event.

Sage House is a dementia support charity based in Chichester, doing incredible work to support families and individuals through every stage of dementia. It was an honour to help promote and look back at one of the wonderful events they organise to raise all-important funds.

It was a pleasure filming our latest production for RNLI Selsey Lifeboat Emergency Services Day. The atmosphere from the community and crew was electric. A big shout out to the crew for helping with the filming, especially with using the drone to film the fireworks.

All but one of the crew at the station are volunteers, so if you can, head to there page to donate to keep this vital service thriving.

Misty the Whipet- recovered.

Misty had bolted her owners home on Monday night. After a long hard search by the owners, they managed to track her down in the local area. Unfortunately Misty kept bolting whenever the owners got near. We offered our services to keep an eye from above and managed to located her whereabouts in the area. Then the rain came, putting a stop to the tracking. After an hour or so, we came back with fresh batteries for field scans. However no sign of her. That’s when stepped in with the thermal imaging on the Matrice 4TD and 4T to assist in the search. Tom and Archie were great, and with the three of us scanning the area, we managed to direct the owners to recover Misty. She is safe and back having a nap!

Night ops- Complete.

With a busy day filming on the camera for the RNLI Selsey Emergency Services day completed, it was time to switch to the drone for some firework shots. This was a first for us, and with a careful bit of planning (and dynamic risk assessments), we took to the sky to capture the great work from . Looking forward to the completing the edit!

Biggest isn’t always best!

The final church map was completed last week. We used the smallest drone in our fleet to complete this project. Due to the location of the church being next to housing and public footpaths, we were mindful of the residents and local traffic, therefore decided the best drone to use was our Mini 3 Pro. A quite and sub 250g drone. Although considered an immature consumer drone for small photography/videography work, it was the right drone for the job and more than capable to produce a 12,000PX image for the project. This is a prime example of using the right tool for the right job.

Looking back at our latest production for a very special cause.

A lot of firsts from the shoot:

•First time filming FPV on an active aerodrome and motor circuit. Thankfully Goodwood are extremely supportive for drone filming on the circuit.

•First time rigging cars for interior filming. A two Go-Pro setup to capture the track and the driver/passenger

•First time driving a car round a track- brilliant fun!

The edit is almost complete and awaiting feedback, then all will be revealed!

Disclaimer- I have full permission from Goodwood track and Goodwood ATC to operate my drones within the designated areas. Please do not fly over any active airfields without the correct registrations and permission.
