M0MCY QRP operations

M0MCY QRP operations This page is about the QRP (low power) operations of Mike Rolph M0MCY both at home and portable

In the near future I intend getting back into QRP operations and doing a few short portable activations when Denise can manage at home without me.

I have not posted on here recently as I have only been able to operate from home due to health reasons and with the poor conditions and my compromise antenna I have had to use the amp and run 30w. I did try the KX3 at home running 10w and made a few contacts this month so will post again at the end of the month.

Well that's another month flown past and not bad considering the conditions, several outings to activate WWFF & POTA all qrp and 76 contacts from home some of which have been 4w though had to put the amp on and go at 30w for some when 4 was not being heard. Unfortunately my home antenna is not the best and with a combination of tiny garden and overhead power cables it is the best I can do. Now for a new month and a new QRP challenge, let's hope the bands pick up

Thanks to all who called me today @ GFF-0286. 63 logged in just under 2 hours on air with 3 pk to pk and best contact KD1CT. The big vertical worked very well with 30 on 40m 1/4 wave and 33 on 20m half wave end fed. Running the kx3 @10 w and at times getting 5&9+ reports showed how well it worked.
Will try it out at other references as and when I can. Logs uploaded and on EQSL.

Back home after my short activation of GFF-0236, conditions were not good but managed 20 contacts on 40 and 20m with the kx3 and my vertical antenna so happy with that.
Sorry to those I could not pull out of the noise and the qsb.
Hopefully get you another time

Last months logs now completed and using the special call MR0MCY from home and MR0MCY/p for activations I made 98 QSO's with the home station and a further 76 out portable running the kx3 at 10w with the Slidewinder antenna. Foir me a good result.
Thanks to all who called me.

Today I went to GFF-0236 Lount nature reserve for a couple of hours, Conditions were very bad and running 10w from the kx3 through the superslider antenna I managed 18 contacts on 40 and 20 meters ssb using the call MR0MCY/p, hopefully I can return later in the year when conditions are better.

Nice trip to Charnwood Lodge NNR GFF-0430 this morning 55 in the log with 3 pk to pk using the KX3 @ 10w through the superslider antenna
Pictures on the WWFF page.

I continue to make contacts from my home station using the special call MR0MCY
and a large number of them have been with just 4w in spite of the poor band conditions.

Nice portable Activation of Calke park NNR yesterday afternoon in very poor band conditions using special call MR0MCY/P. 28 in the log all on kx3 @ 10w

Well last month was a good one for actual contacts but only around half of them were qrp as conditions were so difficult from here at times so ran 30w on the others. I made over 130 contacts in the month including a short activation of GFF-0286 from my home station right in the middle of the national forest. hopefully this month solar flares permitting the amp will not be needed and I can once again enjoy the challenge of low power operation using my customary 4w.

01/03/2023

Well I ended up with 104 contacts in February in spite of solar flares. When conditions were really bad I had to turn on my little chines amp and run 30w but about 3/4 of my contacts were on 4w so happy with that. Now let's see what March brings. 😀
