Some things are more than just music...
Mis-Teeq has been a pretty massive part of my life for more years than I care to remember. What started with being a teenage fan of a new girl group and being super excited seeing them for the first time at T4 On The Beach in Great Yarmouth to following Alesha's solo career and beyond, which somehow turned into years of incredible memories, amazing people, countless TV shows, gigs & festivals, dinners, backstage gossip, running from papparrazi (ok, that only happened once) and making so many new friends that I genuinely never expected to make. Thank you for all the love you've shown me over the last 20+ years. β₯οΈ
There's a ridiculous amount of my life that I can somehow connect back to the Mis-Teeq ladies and the music they made. I even met a boyfriend partly due to a mutual love of Mis-Teeq (I was so jealous of the signed posters in his uni room), who I'm so lucky to call one of my bestest friends 22 years later.
And today feels particularly special.
25 years after Lickin' On Both Sides, Sabrina, Alesha and Su-Elise are back together for a full Mis-Teeq show at Wembley Arena!
Twenty-five years! We're officially at the point where the music we grew up with has an anniversary older than some of the people listening to it. π
Mis-Teeq weren't just another pop group. They were part of that brilliant period when UK garage, R&B and hip-hop were crossing over into the mainstream, and they managed to make it completely their own. Seven consecutive UK Top 10 singles, two albums and a catalogue of songs that somehow still sound bloody good 25 years later.
So today isn't just about nostalgia. It's about celebrating what they created, what it meant to so many people, and the fact that after all these years, the three of them are back on the stage doing what they do best.
Whether my achey knees and hips agree is another matter entirely. π
Welcome back, Mis-Teeq. β€οΈ
Now somebody find me a time machine because apparently 2001 was actually only five minutes ago.....
