🎬 Production Notes from My Cat 🐾

There she goes again! Straight up the bloody ocurtain like she’s auditioning for Mission Impawsible.

No script. No plan. No safety net.

Just claws, chaos — and sheer commitment.

Watching my cat scale the curtains like a tiny stunt double got me thinking… After I’d finished yelling “SAFFIE!”

Sometimes in business (and creative strategy), you’ve got to shoot for the stars first and figure it out later. Usually on the way down!

😼 You won’t always know how it’s going to work.

🙀 You might make a mess on the way.

Were you a child of the '80's/early '90's?

I was. My word didn't we have some great cartoons?

Captain Caveman, Scooby Doo, He-Man, Dungeons and Dragons, Danger Mouse, Inspector Gadget, G-Force .....

My faves were Thundercats and Inspector Gadget.

Just like kids TV, my business has evolved a heck of a lot since I first started.

I started out making videos for friends in the same networking group as me.

I did more and more and more and became a really rather good creative director, filmmaker and editor.

The crowning glory was becoming a multi award-winning filmmaker with my film 'SCOOTCH' which did extremely well on the International film festival circuit.

Now, however, although I love the creative stuff - I prefer teaching small businesses how to craft their stories for social media using video. Handing my knowledge on.

So although I still have an agency where you can get done-for-you content, my focus is now more on the coaching and mentoring side.

When I was considerably younger I watched ‘Birds of a Feather’ with Linda Robson, Pauline Quirk and Lesley Joseph.

I loved it.

I really admire Pauline Quirke and my son was a member of her The Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts. Shame he had an absolutely disgusting experience. I pulled him out and could not in all conscience recommend.

But imagine my delight when I interviewed La Voix a couple of weeks ago at Wycombe Swan Theatre and I passed Linda Robson in the street on the way back to my car.

Our eyes met and I smiled. Not a one for bothering celebs. They have lives too.

Then she complimented me on my dress! I was delighted!

She asked me where it was from. I said “less than a tenner from TEMU”. And I laughed.

I looked at her and said “I’m usually in blue!” She was dressed beautifully head to toe in blue. I was in violent orange.

She said: “Primark”

We both giggled and said goodbye.

URGH. BLOCK. BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK.

The worst thing a business owner can suffer from is the dreaded ideas block. The black pit of a creative slump.

Writer's block.

Idea block.

Performer's block.

Artist's block.

That feeling of complete .... nothingness when you need to get moving on something and just .... well .... NOTHING comes.

This can be due to a number of factors, but it doesn't mean you are any the less creative or brilliant.

You just need a little boost.

Something that gets those ideas flowing again and allows you to bring them out in the open. Because focussing too hard on the problem at hand is actually one thing that CONTRIBUTES to the block. And keeps it blocked.

The single most important benefit of having handy idea boosting prompts with you 24/7 on your phone or mobile device is so that you can step away and think about something completely different. And have fun doing it.

Has this ever happened to you?

You have been told that you HAVE to post more video on your socials.

So you do.

And ........

Instead of tons of engagement you get ....... yep the dreaded tumbleweed.

So you think "blow this for a game of soldiers" I don't have time to churn out video content that no-one sees. Waste of bloomin' time. "I told you videos don't work".

BUT.

Have you tried engaging on content with your audience BEFORE you post said video?

Engaging with your content a short while AFTER you've posted your video?

If not, give it a go and see what happens.

Because did you know that unless you are engaging in regular conversations, social media algorithms (not just LinkedIn) will only show your content to between 1-2% of your audience.

Yes that's right ONLY 1-2%.

If you want to boost your posts and engagement, the only way to do it is have meaningful conversations with others, so their eyes are on YOUR content. The algorithms also prioritise video content (because yeah, actually it DOES work).

So combine those two things - meaningful chat and video posting.

Earlier I posted about a digital download product I created for artists.

It doesn't just apply to voiceover artists. It's just as relevant for and anyone in the space where they could have their data stored and cloned.

The reason I created this digital resource, is to inform.

Many Voiceover artists are solopreneurs.

Why did I create it? I have seen so many voiceover artist who becoming aware of the fact that their voice data has been stored by companies and is being re-used WITHOUT their consent. And I am outraged!

I want to help artists to NOT to fall down this man-hole.

Being aware of how you can word your contracts going forward will give you some protection, prove you are professional and that you value your voice as your business.

For those who are just finding out that their voice has been cloned - talk to Dr Mathilde Pavis. She has clients battling exactly this and I am sure she will be able to help advise you on the best course of action.

We all know, though, that prevention is better than cure. If you can head off this scenario at the pass, so much the better. Don't become a victim of AI cloning. The best thing you can do is be aware.
