Did you know that rock journalism is one of my favourite hobbies? No? Big time. So, I had the pleasure recently to have a nice chat with Darren Redick. Planet Rock listeners know how cool he is, but talking to him in real life is fascinating. We all know that Scandinavian countries have the densest population of tall people, right? They also have the highest number of tall musicians. ❤️ I love writing about tall talents on my blog, but this time the interview was for a website I contribute to, Midlands Rocks.

This week, I had the honour, and greatest pleasure, of interviewing an absolute icon: the progressive metal genius, composer, story teller, singer and multi instrumentalist Arjen Anthony Lucassen . His band Ayreon recently celebrated their 30th anniversary on a major scale, with people flooding in to see them from 71 (!!) countries.

Guess what! He is 2.01m tall (6ft 7"), so of course I couldn't not have a little chat about our height. I was curious where he gets his fantastic costumes from. Unfortunately, he doesn't get them from a shop, so you can't get them anywhere, damn.

He works with a couple of tall female singers, Floor Jansen and Irene Jansen, and expressed his awe at them, at how those beautiful tall women fill up the stage with their presence. 🥰

His comment about his height: "You cannot change your height, so just need to embrace it and stand tall!" Like he does, and brilliantly so.
