In the previous post we started to talk about engaging activities for remote employers and employees. Let’s continue our list of what could be uselful to integrate🚀

- Games: It turns out that games have a big impact on productivity. One study (https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2019/01/190129081930.htm) showed that newly formed teams performed 20% better on tasks following a 45-minute collaborative game. There are a lot of collaborative games on the Internet: drawing, online game shows, walking in different cities like Paris, and more. For example, you can try this drawing game (https://sketchful.io/) and see how it works for you.

- Creative hour: Anyone on the team can share a bit about their hobby or interest, and spend some time together on a non-work project. No matter what your teammates create outside of work, it’s a good way to bring folks closer together.

- Team Week: During a week, make a simple set of activities that make ordinary meetings and work informal, and give folks something different to discuss or laugh about. You can answer an icebreaker question. It’s a surprisingly simple moment of connection that builds trust every day.

Let’s discuss it in the comments below 🙌

Now we would like to discuss team-building activities to increase engagement at remote work💼

It’s not a secret that such activities cultivate a sense of belonging and community. Glint’s research (https://www.glintinc.com/blog/why-belonging-is-important-at-work-employee-engagement-and-diversity/) shows that employees with a strong sense of belonging are over 6 times more likely to be engaged than those who don’t. This is especially difficult to achieve at remote work.

But this sense of belonging improves job satisfaction and reduces burnout risk - so, good team activities help with that. It’s a good tool to recharge, learn more about each other, and make stronger relationships at work — even if you're not together offline. The next activities are not for everyone, use them as inspiration and try something that feels relevant and authentic for your employees.

- Check-Ins: Make time to know what’s going on in your employees’ lives, and celebrate, recognize, and learn together. Regular check-ins help a lot with getting this sense of belonging - it’s giving you a feeling of how important and valuable you are to your workplace.

We will continue our list of engaging activities in our next post! Stay tuned!🙌

So, here is our opinion about this list of bad signs at remote work that we talk about in the previous post🙃

All these things are unhealthy. By reducing burnout and increasing employee wellness, you can reduce the impact of disengaged employees on your company’s bottom line. An Engagement Institute study reveals that disengaged employees cost up to $550 billion every year. Employees that feel healthy are more likely to be engaged at work, especially if their workplace has shown an active interest in increasing their wellness.

Employers must take the initiative in ensuring that their remote teams get dedicated “downtime.” Supervisors should avoid excessive communications outside working hours, especially for nonessential tasks.🙌

Let’s discuss more what could be helpful for employers and employees to avoid burnout🙏

The study 2017 Career Builder revealed that a third of workers still work while on vacation by connecting via email. It is a no-brainer that burnt-out employees are detrimental to the health of your organization.

Bad signs at remote work:

- You check work notifications as soon as you wake up
- You spend more than 20% of your week in meetings
- Your distracting notifications are on during all work hours
- You never take a lunch break
- You work while sick

Do you agree or disagree with the points from this list?

Let’s discuss it more in the comments below!👇

Last but not least issue that we see at remote work - burnout🔥
You probably already know it, yes?

- 2013 Gallup poll (https://news.gallup.com/opinion/gallup/170669/remote-workers-log-hours-slightly-engaged.aspx) found that remote workers log an extra four hours per week on average compared with their counterparts in the office. Employers may see these outcomes as positive, translating into higher productivity.

- But experts say that without firmer boundaries, employees can experience exhaustion and burnout and that such overwork should be discouraged by managers and organizations. Small but vital tools like open-door policies can quickly go out the window. Remember that a happy employee is a productive employee.

How do you think what else could help us to maintain a work-life balance and prevent burnout?

We would be glad to discuss this problem with you!🤍

And what about the problem of "lack of clarity at remote work"?🤔

- When an employee is working on a project, it's important for them to understand what you expect from them, and what their goal is, it can lead to inefficiency from a lack of focus or from performing work that does not fit into the larger goals of a company.
- The most effective way to ensure employees know your expectations is to speak with an employee at the start of an assignment, then check in to ensure their work shows an understanding of the project's needs. Putting key expectations in writing removes any uncertainty and provides a reference for the employee when needed.

How would you be dealing with a lack of clarity at your workplace?

Let’s talk about it in the comments below!✌️

In the previous posts, we talked about the reduced engagement of employees, isolation in remote work, and lack of communication. And what about the challenges of lack of work culture, lack of clarity, and burnout? What could help to cope with them?🧐
Let’s start to talk about them:

The fourth thing that companies struggle with - lack of work culture.

- Teams with a strong group identity tend to have more perceived proximity. At the personal level, team members who disclose personal information, such as a favorite television show or the birth of a child, build stronger connections and trust.

- Also, clearly defined goals, rewards, and open communication are vital to effective teamwork. Team members need to feel comfortable expressing their ideas and opinions so each individual contributes to their full potential. By allowing all employees to express their concerns and preferences, you can balance listening to your staff with executing a unified project approach.

What defines your work culture?

Lack of communication and collaboration is the third issue that we’ve emphasized at remote work😕

So, according to the State of Remote Work 2020 (https://lp.buffer.com/state-of-remote-work-2020), 20% of respondents say their biggest struggle with working remotely is collaboration and communication.

Open communication helps every employee know what to expect from each other. This raises the trust of the team, and it can facilitate important conversations.
Most well-being programs involve social interaction, it’s no surprise that it will bring employees together and improve bonds of unity. They have the opportunity to overcome struggles together and to get healthier, and therefore bonding will occur.

How do you communicate and collaborate with your team? Do you spend time together outside of your work?

Please, share your experience in the comments below, we’re happy to talk about it more🤍

The second problem that we would like to talk about is Loneliness and isolation at remote work🙇

Aside from the risk to mental health, isolation can also quickly lead remote employees to breakdowns in unit cohesion. The result may also lead to poor overall performance in specific areas resulting in unfair blame falling on some individuals.

Encourage employees to communicate even outside core meeting groups. You can leverage team-building exercises aimed at fostering greater cohesion among employees. Informal team meetings, games, and online lunches help achieve objectives more lightheartedly.

Have you had these negative feelings during your work from home?

We’re very interested to hear about your experience!🙂

Let’s continue to talk more detailed about the remote work difficulties of employers and employees and how to deal with them🏋️‍♀️

The first problem that we found out - reduced engagement of employees.

Engagement helps an employee keep focus and enthusiasm, which can increase the quantity and quality of their results. When an employee loses their connection to a project, it can lead to a reduction in productivity.

As a manager, you can talk to them openly and discuss what issues are affecting them, and what could be helpful and supportive. Try to emphasize the importance of an employee's work and you may help an employee find meaning in their work by showing their results.

Because it's beneficial for you to clarify the most common challenges and find effective solutions for each.

The ability to keep a team working well together will significantly improve production for your company. Some organizations listen to the people, and as they adopt some employee programs, more people will look to work for companies with such programs.

Most employees love the idea that their company is helping them live a better quality of life. So don’t wait until your workforce starts complaining about how your competitors have such well-being programs in place. Be proactive and start caring for your team right now🤍
