It was brilliant to chat with Graham Morrison and Calum Graham of the Garrabost Mill trust last week. I’m delighted to get a chance to explore this place’s deep-rooted history with a longer form documentary about the mill.
In a wide-ranging interview, Graham talks about his family connection to the mill, from its construction in the 1800s and his grandfathers time as ‘The Miller’, through the generations to his own experiences as a child born in the mill house and raised with a profound technical understanding of its operation.
The Garrabost mill eventually came under community ownership when the Garrabost Mill Charitable Trust bought the mill with majority funding from Point and Sandwick Trust, and has since been going through a process of renovation and renewal.
When completed, the mill will be a museum, showing an important part of Garrabost and Point’s history.
With funding from PST, we hope to create an authentic narrative documentary, exploring the technical and societal changes experienced by the mill and the family that operated it through three generations.
