RIGHT BEFORE OUR EYES🇬🇾🇬🇾
I am yet to see, in this 2025 elections campaign, any other politician or party, with the exception of the PPP, that is commanding such large crowds whenever they visit a community. Such images are not telltale signs about certainty of votes only but powerful indications of Guyanese support for a man they wish to lead them.
Azruddin Mohamed boldly went ahead and formed a political party ( WIN) amidst sanctions by the US and persecution by the Government of Guyana. The Guyanese people seem not to care about any of this and are speaking loudly by their presence and their enthusiasm to see him assume the highest office of the land.
People’s power can defy the odds. When sanctions potentially face a country and “bad name” by powerbrokers and the powerful seek to undermine a man and yet the masses lend their presence and support, it is a strong message of patriotism against all odds. This seems to be a case of the Guyanese people telling the US and everyone else to bring it on but that will not break their will.
Meanwhile, the flailing opposition has to turn up at funerals and Independence activities to appear to be in the race. The opposition beleaguered by divisions, disunity and by all appearances, unattractive leadership, has not given the people an iota of hope that they are prepared and ready to lead a country crying out for good governance.
Outside of a feeble cry for support, massive defections and resignation by MPs and the general membership and literally no campaign drive at this final hour, the opposition pays lip service to winning. The opposition is banking on, without any certainty, that the people need a change of Government and they will choose them. It is not only a sorry and sordid joke. It hinges on hopeful hopelessness in the face of the reality that obtains.
IT IS RIGHT BEFORE OUR EYES TO SEE
The PPP is working tirelessly to have another chance to govern. It is not worried about the main opposition; it is worried about Mohamed. The PPP has opened its door to all and sundry. It is saying come join us and you will be taken care of now and after a win.
Yet, I reflect. I ponder. I wrestle with the thought. What if the golden opportunity of yesterday had lived to see today? What if Terrence Campbell was at the helm of the opposition in this race? What if the AFC had said yes to coalescing ( and without doubt they would have with Campbell at the helm) and a robust campaign was in motion? What if Amanza, Aubrey, Nigel London, Nigel Hughes and Dorwain Bess led by Campbell had appeared before the people in unison to convince them rightfully so, that a united opposition void of the burdens of corruption and confusion, was ready to save Guyana?
I have done everything in my power to make the call for the righteous to lead and it was the righteous that rejected it.
Amanza Walton Desir stands alone as the righteous hope in the realm of the opposition. It is not too late yet. But is she ready and willing to give it her all? Is she willing to invest everything in making the sacrifice? Does she believe in cause to be that righteous one that God wants for Guyana? Time may tell but even time is saying there isn’t much time.
Azruddin is working. The PPP is working. VPAC and Bailey are working. The People’s Movement is passionately pushing for the righteous to overcome.
Meanwhile, some are fighting with and among themselves. It is a sordid and sorry affair.
