2025 might not be over yet, but my head is already in 2026!
Like most social media managers, I’m always thinking about how to give my clients the best service - not just for the next post or campaign, but long-term. And honestly, I do the same for myself too. I’m thinking about what’s worked this year, what I can do differently next year, and how I can make my business run more smoothly.
Planning ahead before the Christmas rush is the perfect time to do this! Here’s how I approach it:
1. Look back before you look forward
Spend a little time reviewing this year’s performance. What worked? What didn’t? Which posts or campaigns got the engagement you wanted? This will help you make smarter decisions for 2026.
2. Set your goals
Think about where you want your social media pages (or your freelance business!) to be by the end of next year. More engagement? Bigger reach? Stronger client relationships? Write them down - clarity is everything.
3. Plan your content in advance
A rough content plan for the first few months can save you stress later. Think about seasonal events, campaigns, and recurring themes. Batching your content is your friend!
4. Build routines that work for you
Consistency is key - whether that’s a Sunday content prep session, a quick Monday review, or a monthly strategy check-in. Small routines prevent overwhelm and keep your work running smoothly.
5. Keep a little flexibility
Plans are great, but don’t be rigid. Trends, news, or client needs can change. Make sure your plan allows for creativity and spontaneous opportunities too.
If you’re managing your own pages, or thinking about going freelance, doing this groundwork now will make a huge difference. 2026 is the year to be prepared, stay organised, and get your socials working for you, not the other way around.
