The UK's third-biggest taxpayer is set to leave for Greece, with hedge fund billionaire Chris Rokos reportedly planning to open an office in Athens to take advantage of the country's generous flat tax rules for wealthy foreigners.

Rokos paid £330m in tax last year alone, and his departure could cost the Treasury dearly, with tax experts noting the sum could fund 4,500 teachers.

It comes despite his continued generosity to Britain's academic institutions, having donated a record £190m to Cambridge University back in March to establish the Rokos School of Government, set to open this autumn.

The Oxford-educated mathematician also owns Tottenham House near Marlborough, where he's been overseeing one of the UK's most expensive private restorations, with costs expected to top £200m once purchase and land are factored in.

The Grade I listed mansion, rescued from Historic England's "Heritage at Risk" register, has been undergoing extensive repairs, including around 1,000 tonnes of Bath stone, with up to 500 tradespeople on site daily at peak. It is unknown what the plans are for this house now.
