Another Discovery meeting today. Another piece of the picture.

And one thing keeps becoming clearer:

Very few business problems exist in isolation.

A process in one department creates work in another.

A missing piece of information causes someone else to chase it.

A manual workaround becomes somebody else’s spreadsheet.

And a small delay upstream becomes a much bigger problem downstream.

That’s why Discovery matters.

Don’t just look at the problem.

Follow it through the business.

The dots are definitely starting to connect.

Today reinforced something important:

The people closest to the work often know exactly where the friction is.

You just have to ask the right questions — and listen.

Processes, systems, workarounds, duplicated effort and those little frustrations that have simply become “the way we do things.”

Some fascinating insights today.

But still no solutions.

A dangerous sentence in business:

“I think everything’s running OK.”

Think?

If you asked your leadership team right now:

Where are we losing time?
What is holding jobs up?
What are our people repeatedly chasing?
Where are we duplicating work?
Which processes rely on one person knowing what to do?
What is costing us money unnecessarily?

Could they answer from evidence?

Or would you get six different opinions?

That’s the problem.

Many businesses have plenty of data.

What they don’t have is visibility.

Information sits in spreadsheets, inboxes, systems, folders and sometimes simply in people’s heads.

The board sees the outcome.

The workforce experiences the problem.

Digital transformation isn’t about giving management another dashboard full of pretty graphs.

It’s about giving the right person, the right information, at the right time, so they can make a better decision.

The biggest problem in digital transformation usually isn’t the technology.

It’s the process underneath it.

A business can have Microsoft 365, a CRM, accounting software, spreadsheets, mobile apps and AI tools…

…and still have people:

→ Entering the same information twice
→ Chasing updates by email
→ Copying data between systems
→ Searching for documents
→ Creating their own spreadsheets to fill gaps
→ Waiting for someone else before they can continue

Adding another piece of software doesn’t necessarily fix that.

Sometimes it just adds another login.
