πŸ“£ TEAM OF THE MONTH (OCTOBER) πŸ“£

☠ There were very few meetings for us to choose from in the month but it was decided that given the fact they completed the double in the Championship, and having gone all season without a monthly award, the Poole Pirates Speedway were worthy winners of the final Team of the Month for 2025.

➑️ October began with a 6 point victory at Redcar Bears to clinch their place in the Championship Grand Final against the Glasgow Tigers. It was guest, Adam Ellis, who clinched the vital victory in heat 13 to secure their passage. A few days later they were back in action at home to Redcar Bears again in the KO Cup Final and built up a strong 14 point lead. A paid maximum from the returning Richard Lawson being the leading pirate. They completed the job later in the week with a 12 point victory at Redcar to take the first of their trophies in the quest for another treble.

🏁 Then came potentially the greatest Championship play off final having defeated Glasgow Tigers by 12 at home, they the lost by the same score line in Scotland largely thanks to a final heat 3-3 from Richard Lawson and Zach Cook Racing. The same partnership then combined for a super heat 7-2 to deliver the title for the Pirates and give them trophy number 2.

πŸ‘‰ The month finished with their BSN Final, once again against the Redcar Bears, and having lost by only 2 away from home, confidence was high heading into the home leg. Unfortunately for the Pirates, Redcar Bears secured a draw on the evening to take the title and grab that treble away from the Pirates.

πŸ‘ Congratulations go to the Pirates for another fantastic season and despite missing out on the treble they can be more than happy with achieving another double.

🐻 Jody has seen his season flourish in all leagues, and it was his 7+2/6 which caught the eye, as having been pulled back for a rerun, he secured the vital 2nd place in heat 14 to secure the BSN Series for the Redcar Bears Speedway at Poole Pirates.

🐻 2nd place went to team mate, Danny King, who was another of the stars for the Redcar Bears as they secured BSN Series success with a draw at Poole Pirates having beaten them by a couple of points at home. Danny scored 14/6 in that away leg to more than play his part. He registered 8.67% of the votes.

πŸ… 3rd place went to Charlie Southwick who has made a fine start in the sport and his score of 13+2/6 for Middlesbrough Tigers helped them to a narrow home win over the Belle Vue Colts. He scored 6.32% of the votes.

πŸ—£ Congratulations go to Jody who has certainly finished the season strongly and can hold his head high after successful seasons with Oxford Speedway King's Lynn Stars King's Lynn Young Stars and Redcar Bears.

πŸ“’ PICKO IS A SCORPION!

Scunthorpe speedway are delighted to announce their intention to run in the 2026 championship league and in doing so also unveil their new number one, Josh Pickering.

Team manager David Howe says β€œI said in August that the sport would be facing a turbulent time and so it has proven. After last year, as a club we had to take a long hard look at things and decide what was best for the future. It has been a stressful period and both myself and Rob in particular have been working hard to get to where we feel excited about the sport again, we are there and signing Josh is a statement of intent from us”

Pickering, who last rode in the championship for Edinburgh but more recently Sheffield in the premiership joins the club on an 11 plus average but Howe feels he is worth it and that he is worth more than points on track.

β€œThe last time we had a rider with an average over 10, we won the ko cup. Ok, I accept that dougy gained that improvement over the year but he was high to start with. What he did give us was points in those big races and set the tone for a meeting and Josh will do just the same. On top of that Josh’s personality mirrors his riding style, he wants to win and the help and knowledge he will bring to pits is what we need after quite a flat year in that regard.β€œ

The signing of Pickering shows that the club are not content to be a club that just participates, David continues β€œnone of us want another year like last season, it was depressing and hard work for everyone and you could see it wore everyone down. Josh comes in on a high average so we have had to look at riders who we feel will improve their own average and I am quite happy with the balance of youth and experience in the team. It’s big day for the club and I hope the fans can see that we want to provide a winning team but also an enjoyable, entertaining night out at speedway, we are looking behind the scenes on lots of ways to improve the own product.β€œ

More team and club announcements to follow but welcome to the club Josh! πŸ¦‚
