❤️🏙️ GOOD MORNING DONCASTER!
It’s Monday 7 September 2026! From brighter weather before rain arrives later and a major police crackdown on vehicle crime, to the countdown to a very special 250th St Leger, progress towards reopening Doncaster Sheffield Airport, an incredible result for the Dons and plenty more, here’s what you need to know across Doncaster today. 👇
🌤️ BRIGHTER SPELLS BEFORE RAIN ARRIVES LATER
It should be a fairly decent start to the new week across Doncaster.
Early cloud and any drizzle should clear, leaving a largely dry and bright morning with some sunny spells.
Cloud will build later in the afternoon and winds will strengthen, before rain moves across the region during the evening.
Temperatures should reach around 20–21°C.
There are currently no Met Office weather warnings in force for Doncaster today.
🚔 14 ARRESTED IN MAJOR DONCASTER VEHICLE CRIME CRACKDOWN
Fourteen people have been arrested and 13 suspected stolen vehicles and other items recovered during a major police operation targeting organised vehicle crime across Doncaster.
South Yorkshire Police searched sites in Mexborough and Bentley, recovering items including quad bikes, motorbikes, a Toyota Hilux, trailers and plant machinery.
Police say reported motorbike thefts in Doncaster have fallen by more than half compared with last year, while reported vehicle offences overall are down around 18% this year.
The operation forms part of an ongoing crackdown on organised vehicle theft across the area.
🚨 TWO SERIOUSLY INJURED IN A638 CRASH
Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious three-vehicle collision on the A638 Wakefield Road.
The crash on Friday involved a Volvo estate, an Audi A6 and a Ford Galaxy.
The 62-year-old driver of the Volvo and his 55-year-old passenger were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The drivers of the other two vehicles also suffered injuries, although police say these are not believed to be life-threatening or life-altering.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or has relevant dashcam footage is being asked to contact South Yorkshire Police.
🏇 DONCASTER GETS READY FOR A VERY SPECIAL ST LEGER
One of the biggest weeks in Doncaster’s calendar is almost here – and this year it’s extra special.
The Betfred St Leger Festival returns to Doncaster Racecourse from Thursday through to Sunday, bringing thousands of racegoers and visitors into the city.
Saturday’s famous St Leger Stakes will mark an incredible 250 years since the race was first run in 1776.
🏇 Thursday – Ladies Day
🎩 Friday – Gents Day
🏆 Saturday – St Leger Day
🎉 Sunday – Sunday Funday
Expect Doncaster to get increasingly busy as the week progresses, particularly around the racecourse, city centre, railway station and main routes into the city.
✈️ WORK CONTINUES TOWARDS REOPENING DONCASTER SHEFFIELD AIRPORT
Plans to bring Doncaster Sheffield Airport back into operation continue to move forward.
A public consultation is currently under way over proposals to restore controlled airspace around the airport and introduce arrival and departure routes.
Residents, businesses and other organisations can have their say until 4 October.
The airport has also announced independent sustainability assessments covering areas including its supply chain, ground handling, security and other services as preparations for reopening continue.
🏉 DONS HIT BARROW FOR 72 IN INCREDIBLE PLAY-OFF WIN
What a result for Doncaster RLFC! 🔥
The Dons made a sensational start to their Championship play-off campaign by thrashing Barrow Raiders 72–0.
Doncaster ran in 12 tries, with Connor Robinson converting every single one.
Robinson also extended his incredible run of successful goal kicks to 52, described as a world-record streak.
The challenge gets even bigger next, with Doncaster travelling to Championship leaders London Broncos in the next round.
🔴⚪ ROVERS STILL SEARCHING FOR FIRST LEAGUE WIN
Doncaster Rovers are still waiting for their first League One victory of the new campaign after losing 3–2 at home to Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.
Alfie May scored from the penalty spot and Sean Grehan headed a late second for Rovers, but Plymouth took all three points.
There’s not long to dwell on it.
Rovers are back at the Eco-Power Stadium tomorrow night, when Huddersfield Town visit in the EFL Trophy.
🏗️ £60 MILLION DONCASTER ROADS PROGRAMME CONTINUES
A huge programme of road repairs and resurfacing is continuing across Doncaster.
City of Doncaster Council is investing £60 million over four years in what it describes as a record highways investment.
Around 46 miles of road have already been resurfaced since April, with approximately 80 miles expected to be completed during the programme’s first year.
🏘️ HAVE YOUR SAY ON DONCASTER’S FUTURE
People across Doncaster are being asked to help shape the city’s next Local Plan.
The consultation looks at some of the biggest long-term questions facing Doncaster, including:
🏠 Where new homes should be built
💼 Future employment and business sites
🌳 Protecting the environment
🏗️ Where future development should take place
The completed plan will help guide development across Doncaster through to at least 2039.
Responses are being accepted until 5pm on 21 September.

Doncaster could also benefit from a new strategic partnership between South Yorkshire and the Government-backed National Wealth Fund.
