Your content doesn’t always need to sell. 🤎

Sometimes the purpose of a post is to educate, entertain, connect with your audience or simply show a little more of the personality behind your business.

Your audience are real people, and they want to connect with the people and businesses behind the content they see.

So next time you’re planning your content, don’t just ask yourself “What can I sell?”

Ask yourself:
“What can I give my audience?”

Because good content isn’t always about making a sale. Sometimes it’s about building the relationship that makes someone want to become a customer in the first place. 🤎

What type of content do you enjoy seeing from small businesses? 👇🏻

✨Norfolk Business Spotlight 7 ✨

This week’s Norfolk Business Spotlight takes us to one of Downham Market’s hidden gems No.8 The Old Bookshop.

If you love getting lost amongst bookshelves, finding a pre-loved classic or discovering your next favourite read, this is definitely a place worth visiting.

What I love most about No.8 is that it’s more than just a bookshop. It’s a welcoming community space that supports the West Norfolk Deaf Association, giving every book sold an even bigger purpose. 🤎

From a social media point of view, there’s already so much personality to work with, cosy corners, colourful books, community events and plenty of stories waiting to be told.

One idea I’d love to see? A regular Book of the Week or Staff Pick series to inspire readers and encourage people to pop into the shop.

Have you visited No.8? What’s the last book you couldn’t put down? 👇🏼

Posting and having a strategy aren’t the same thing. 🤎

You can post consistently and still feel like your social media isn’t actually doing anything for your business.

A strategy gives your content a purpose.

Instead of simply asking “What should I post today?”, start asking:

-Who am I trying to reach?
-What do I want this post to achieve?
-Does this fit my content pillars?
-How does this support my business?

Because social media isn’t just about filling your feed.

It’s about creating content that works towards something.

Save this as a little reminder for your next content planning day 🤎

I didn’t start By Lou Creative because I had everything figured out. 🤎

I started it because I genuinely love social media, creating content and finding ways to help people.

Starting my own business has been one of the biggest learning curves.

There’s still so much I’m learning, so much I want to improve on and so many things I’m still figuring out along the way.

But one thing I’ve always known is that I want to help people.

Whether that’s taking social media off a small business owner’s plate, creating that one post they’ve been putting off, helping them figure out what to post, or managing their content so they can focus on everything else their business needs.

That’s what I want By Lou Creative to be. 🤎

A little piece of my creativity that can hopefully make someone else’s business life that little bit easier.

And I’m so excited to see where it goes.

Thank you for being here and supporting my little business. It genuinely means more than you know. 🫶🏻

If you’re a small business owner, I’d love to know, what’s the one thing about social media you find the hardest? 👇🏻

✨Norfolk Business Spotlight 6✨

For this week’s Norfolk Business Spotlight, I’m shining a light on The Seat Coffee House in Downham Market 🤎

The Seat is a small independent coffee house with so much character. From freshly made coffee and homemade cakes to sweet and savoury treats, it has that cosy, welcoming feel that makes you want to stay a little longer. It’s also dog friendly, which is always a bonus! 🐶☕️

What stood out to me most when looking at The Seat online was how much personality, atmosphere and visual content they already have to work with. Their food, drinks, cosy space and local feel give them so many opportunities to create content that makes people want to visit.

One small opportunity I spotted? Making even more of their individual menu items and customer favourites. Think “this week’s favourite”, “what would you choose?” or giving one particular coffee, cake or lunch option its moment to shine. 🤎

Because sometimes the simplest content ideas can be the ones that get people thinking, “I need to try that!”

Have you visited The Seat? What would you order? 👇

Want your captions to do more than just fill the space underneath your post? 🤎

The right caption can help you connect with your audience, encourage engagement and even guide people towards taking action.

Here are 5 simple things to keep in mind when writing your captions:

✨ Keep it concise
✨ Ask questions
✨ Be authentic
✨ Always proofread
✨ Give your audience a reason to take action

You don’t need every caption to be perfect, just make sure it has a purpose.

✨Norfolk Business Spotlight 5✨

This time, I’m shining a spotlight on Church Farm, Stow Bardolph, a lovely local attraction just outside Downham Market.

With animals, activities, outdoor and indoor play, seasonal events, a tea room and plenty more to discover, there’s lots for families to enjoy.

I love highlighting local businesses and attractions that make our area such a lovely place to live, work and explore. 🤎

Church Farm is a great example of a local business with so many stories, experiences and moments to share online, and that’s something I always look for when creating these spotlights.

Have you visited Church Farm before?

What did you love most about it?

One of the biggest misconceptions I see with small businesses is that you have to be doing everything, all at once. 🤎

You don’t.

Whether it’s your social media, branding, website, content or simply figuring out how to show up online, it can feel like there’s always something else you should be doing.

But sometimes, you just need to focus on the right things for your business right now.

That might mean improving your social media, creating a stronger visual identity, refreshing your content or simply getting your ideas organised.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. Every business is different, and that’s what makes it exciting.

You don’t have to figure it all out alone. 🤎

If you’re a small business owner and need a little help showing up online, my DMs are always open.📧
