Scotland’s Oldest Surviving Cathedral: Glasgow Cathedral
Dating back to 1197, Glasgow Cathedral is a rare gem—one of the few medieval cathedrals in Scotland to make it through the turbulent Protestant Reformation unscathed. Walking through its halls feels like stepping back in time.
Here are a few of my favorite things about visiting Glasgow Cathedral:
✨ The breathtaking stone arches, with their intricate carvings that seem to tell their own stories.
✨ The atmospheric lower level, home to a 13th-century crypt and the tomb of St. Mungo—Glasgow’s patron saint.
✨ The hillside cemetery above the cathedral. It’s hauntingly beautiful and offers some of the best views over the city and the cathedral itself.
If you’re in Glasgow, this is one spot you absolutely shouldn’t miss—it’s history, architecture, and scenery all rolled into one.
