"My name is Lewis and I manage the social media for What The Fork
I was born in Kirkcaldy, I grew up in Glenrothes and now I'm living in Dunfermline. From the age of 16 up until I was 24, I also worked in schools. I enjoyed working with kids, and that that time I preferred working with them to working with adults. I was doing sports coaching, working in the schools and in after school clubs, specifically with kids that needed a bit more support and I honestly got so much enjoyment out of it.
What you'll find out is that working in this world can put you in deprived areas, some of these kids were in care so I started working at night, as relief worker in the young persons homes. Covid hit in 2019 and after that I went back to the schools and the kids were great, we were always having a laugh with each other. But I wanted to find something that could tick all my boxes. I loved what I did but the hours were long. I would definitely say that the pandemic forced me onto this path, I would just upload stuff, I'm sitting at home asking my mum fancied going to the kitchen because there was nothing to do. We couldn't go anywhere else!
I was always uploading to social media, just making videos and would make a wee bit of money for it, the kids started tuning in to and they loved it, I would also do social media stuff for other businesses. It's something I enjoy doing and I've gotten pretty good at it. Last year, What The Fork got in touch after seeing my content because they thought I was funny. I did 10 videos and then I was offered a contract to manage their social media.
It's been 6 months here now and it's my job to raise awareness and get people chatting about what we do, it's a food service app. It's all about local businesses in the community, instead of the crazy amounts the big companies are charging, we only take 10% and that's capped. These big companies don't cap their takings, it's mental. Plus we come out to your business and upload what we shoot on our socials, we can highlight their deals and whatnot. It's just a lot of fun, and we're helping out and that's what it's all about.
For me I'm able to help local businesses, support all these places who sign up with us. I love doing this, this is a family run business with the best people behind it and we plan to keep supporting as many local businesses as we can"
