Tonight at The Leaping Salmon 🍻
Just a quick note — the kitchen is open as usual tonight, so food and drinks will both be available alongside the quiz.
Come hungry, bring your thinking caps, and we’ll see you later! 💛

Quiz Night Wrap-Up – What a Night! 🧠🍻
Huge thanks to everyone who came down tonight — the room was absolutely buzzing and the picture round caused serious debate 😄
Big congratulations to The MD’s for taking the win with one of the strongest Final Gamble answers we’ve had.
The final question was about that sudden falling sensation just as you’re drifting off — and instead of the common term, they came in with the proper medical wording. Proper impressive 👏
Highlights tonight:
A spiral that divided entire tables
A science round with much room for discussion
And at least one giant red robot leaving people very confused 🤣
Thanks again everyone — same time next week.
Bring friends, bring brains, and maybe snacks just in case!

Kitchen Closed Tonight – Apologies! 🍴
Just a quick heads-up that the kitchen will be closed this evening.
We know that’s not ideal, especially on quiz night, and we’re really sorry for the inconvenience.
The bar and quiz are still fully on, so come down, grab a drink, and bring your brain — just maybe grab some food beforehand tonight.
Thanks for understanding and we’ll have the kitchen back up by Friday if all goes to plan 🙏

Tonight at The Leaping Salmon – Quiz Night! 🧠🍻
We’ve got:
A wild picture round
Music you’ll definitely recognise… eventually
A science round that will leave you with much room for debate
And a final gamble that everyone has experienced but nobody can name straight away 👀
Quick warm-up for you all:
What film quote lives rent-free in your head?
Drop it below — bonus respect points if it isn’t Star Wars or The Simpsons 😄
See you tonight. Pens ready. Pride at stake.
Let’s make it loud.

Ever found out a song you love isn’t actually about what you thought it was?
Some of the most iconic tracks ever written hide stories you’d never expect – heartbreak disguised as pop, addiction wrapped in poetry, joy built on struggle. Music has a way of saying things we sometimes can’t say out loud.
Tonight’s quiz dips into that magic. We’ll be listening a little closer, thinking a little deeper, and uncovering connections that might just change how you hear a song forever.
As always, it’s about fun first – a room full of laughs, lightbulb moments, and friendly rivalry.
Looking forward to seeing you all tonight. 🎶🍻

Tonight’s favourite mind-bender:
Oxford University is older than the Aztec Empire.
Teaching was happening in Oxford by 1096.
The Aztec capital, Tenochtitlán, wasn’t founded until around 1325.
It feels wrong, doesn’t it?
We picture the Aztecs alongside pyramids and pharaohs, and Oxford as dusty books and tweed… but history doesn’t care about our mental shortcuts.
Thanks to everyone who came out tonight – you made it a belter.
Same time next week.

Massive thank you to everyone who came along to quiz night tonight.
Brilliant teams, great energy, and some genuinely clever moments around the room.
Nights like that are exactly why I love running this.
See you all next week. 🧠🍻

Quizcraft – Behind the Questions
While building this week’s Civilisations round, I went down a rabbit hole about the Amazon rainforest.
For centuries it was believed that no large societies could survive there. The land was thought too harsh. The soil too poor.
Now archaeology tells a different story.
Beneath the canopy once lived vast, organised cultures – with roads, settlements, and engineered landscapes hidden by jungle.
The haunting part?
Many of these people may not have fallen to war or collapse… but to first contact. Early explorers likely carried diseases the inhabitants had no immunity to, wiping out entire cultures before the world ever knew they existed.
History isn’t just what survives.
Sometimes it’s what disappears before it can be remembered.
