Welcome to REVIEW No.146. George and I have had a lot of fun putting it together and hope you enjoy reading it as much.! say reading as I firmly believe, first and foremost, that is what a magazine is for. One of the problems for the Editor of any publication is getting the balance right between text and images. There is a saying 'a picture paints a thousand words, and by and large I suppose that is true, but most of those words, unfortunately will be questions, and if you don't have adequate text and captions then they will not be answered. Pictures alone can inspire and inform in a general way, but words can nail something down. But both is best, so here we go. This month I was inspired particularly by Knobby Clark's Emporium, which took me back to my childhood in Somerset. Part of the abandoned army camp at Dimmer, on the outskirts of our village, had been taken over by a local entrepreneur called 'Dobbin' Warren, who ran a fascinating scrapyard, a playground full of old cars and vans, and whose premises bordered the local council tip, which often yielded even greater treasures. Thus the place was known to us locals as "Dimmer Dump', a name that Itnd conjures up a vision in Gauge 1 something along the lines of the photographs we ran last month from Shipley, and which would provide a splendid last resting place for all those half-built IBG Bedfords and ICM WOTs that currently occupy my shelf of shame. Elsewhere John Elliott's Northern Counties Mineral Railway offers another masterclass in buildings, and James Coldicott's
ane Mine Bale Borth Van has done nothing to dissuade me from trying wood over lastic where appropriate. Franck Combes' Osiris also pleased me no end, not only with the construction techniques but with the juxtaposition of the drab weathered rolling stock into the cartoon-like surroundings. But enough words from me, other than to thank all our contributors for their excellent work. I am always interested to hear from writers past, present, and future, so do get in touch. I'll look forward to hearing from you, and hopefully meeting some of you at shows over the summer.
