I love Substack. I've found so many creators - poets, artists, authors, spiritual practitioners and more - all with stories to share, wisdom to impart and resources to offer, and practically no alg0rithm! I really feel free to express myself there.
The subscriber count is absolutely irrelevant, really. It's more about an outlet for my voice, and it's just a bonus if people relate.
I can totally recommend getting the app, though. So much more interesting than regular platforms!

Hello Dears,
What a whirlwind the last 6 months have been! Let me explain - a seriously contentious end to my old job, starting a new one after 4 months of unemployment and bad mental health, and then not long after stepping back from ROR, hospitalisation ending in emergency surgery and 10 weeks of recovery!
BUT, it was all in the name of healing and I learned many lessons about myself, my spirituality and my purpose.

So, now I return to you all with a fresh outlook for ROR and new projects cooking in the pan.
The formula for this account will be a lot less formal and more organic going forward, to match the ethic and vibe of my other projects.
What does that look like?, I hear you ask.
Well, the first thing changing is the frequency & content of posting. Gone are informative divination topics with scheduled posts and coming in will be more fluid & free form observations and readings.

The second is pricing structure. Standard prices remain and are negotiable, and extra method charges have been scrapped - if an extra method is used, it will be entirely up to you whether you wish to add a little extra for that.
In addition, there will be a free-of-charge/nominal fee service for those who are in financial binds or for whatever reason are unable to pay for a reading. This can be discussed confidentially & impartially at booking stage, and in no way will affect the quality of your reading.

Guidance and connection should be affordable to all, and I want to move forward with a mindset of inclusivity -
the aim now is to move away from gain, and more into giving.
The spiritual community is so saturated now, and more popular than ever. I don't believe in taking advantage of this by charging the earth. Yes, my gift is worth something, which is why standard charges are staying but, a gift must be shared and shared fairly. I also don't believe artists, creators and small businesses should be killing themselves to beat an algorithm, so I won't!
I'm so looking forward to falling in love with divination again. I do hope you'll join me.

Reading for a client in their own home is such a privilege and the level of trust is an absolute honour.
This particular client expressed that readings are a few and far between thing for them to engage in as they need to trust the integrity of the reader - and the fact that she chose Rowan Oracle Readings is some of the highest praise I have ever received.

As always, I do this for the love of cards and to be able to bring guidance and clarity to those who need it.

It is with a heavy yet very frustrated heart that I make this post to tell you all that I have decided to cease Rowan Oracle Readings as a business in its true sense.
For 9 months now I have tried to bring creative and informative content to post daily, taking hours of research and design time and paying for tools to do so. This is no longer sustainable to my declining mental health, nor my pocket.
I no longer want to bow to the pressure of attempting to appease an algorithm that is never going to work for me and my approach to social media, nor do I wish to spend large chunks of the time I could be spending on my own healing, development, relationships and my craft in its pursuit. That I have been out of work since January and am feeling the added pressure to my bank balance is a driving factor in leading me to consider what is important, and engagement in the world around me is priority over chasing engagement online.
I start a new employment position next week, and a challenging stage of legal business that will take a lot of my time and energy.
Posting for ROR has given me wonderful connections and opened me to a few other small business pals but interaction, following and subsequent business has been limited, and I think that must be for a reason.
I will continue to read for anyone who wishes to book with me and all arrangements, including that with still stand, but I will no longer actively court bookings, create events or in any way try to post, advertise, or promote as a business.
I will share the odd post now and again, but only if I want to, and when I want to. I just can't sustain this current format any more.

Okay, okay........this is a pretty daft definition BUT I have used this form of music divination through my own personal practice for some time instinctively and have never thought to research it to see if it was a thing. When researching, this name came up and I've gone with it for want of a better term!

I don't know its origins but by its very nature this is a modern form of divination, and a very simple yet accurate one in my experience.
Shufflemancy, sometimes called audio-bibliomancy (which just makes me think of divination using audio books), is the use of randomly chosen music to divine a message or answer to a question.
This can be done by asking a question aloud then asking a music streaming service to shuffle or randomly play a song - or turning on the radio and using the song that is currently playing - and taking its title or lyrics as a message. Alternatively, selecting a song at random yourself and skipping to a randomly chosen section and using the lyrics to gain your answer is also effective.
I have also used this to ask an entity with which I have a magickal relationship - ally, ancestor, the land or a place, for example - to let me know their message for me.

Another way to extrapolate meaning is to pay attention to how the song makes you feel. Is it a happy song that makes you want to smile? Is it a dance song? Maybe it's a country song that tells a story that resonates with your personal experience. Whatever it might be, this is also important to understanding what your answer or message is.

To make this form of divination wider for a larger reading you could also place a time frame to it, by stating that you will take a couple of days or a week to gain your answer, and pay attention to the amount of times you hear the same song or version of the same lyrics or genre of music in that time. You could also look out for different songs in that time that have lyrics that seem to tie together or have an order that altogether forms a message.

Music is an interesting tool for divination as most of us are drawn to or motivated by music and it can evoke large ranges of emotion, and so we instinctively pay attention to it.

I was gifted this book over Easter by a friend, and although not in depth and slightly capsule, I'm looking forward to reading this chapter and the author's take on some of the women who were deemed witches for their gift or demonstration of firesight.
From Joan of Arc to the Oracles of Greece, Grimm's Fairy Tales to Mother Shipton, this chapter looks into every portrayal of this archetype in fact and fiction.

I'm hoping it will prompt further research into this topic and maybe a series of posts. What do you think?

To continue the 'simple divination' series, I want to talk about doing this with cards.

Particularly good for those new to cartomancy, the use of card pulls of between 1 and 3 cards are a really simple way to test your skills and intuition on yourself.
Used by people with various practices, this can help to keep them in touch with their self, their spirituality, and their intuition among other things. Some also use this as a means of reconnecting when they feel a little distant from them.

A daily pull of one card can give you a focus for your day, tell you what you might be neglecting to pay attention to, or tell you what you can expect to come up for you during the course of your day. It can also tell you (depending on the deck you're using) what your energy is, who to call on for help, or any number of things depending on what your question is.

Readings of 2 cards are good at the end of the day when you want to assess the events you experienced. You can ask for what you need to continue to do or focus on and what you need to stop, for instance. You could ask how something could've gone better and how you can put that into practise. Whatever played out within your day, these pulls can help you make sense of it.

3 card pulls are good if you need a little more information or want to use the information to guide you over a longer time period, such as a week or month. You could use the first card as current situation, the second as what is coming into being and the third as the outcome.
Some use the three cards to represent past, present and future. There are so many ways to use a 3 card spread, it is probably the most versatile of these examples. I often post spread suggestions for the sabbats and they are mostly 3 cards, the most recent being for the Spring Equinox/Ostara.

Card pulls of 1, 2 or 3 cards are great practice on the journey to bigger readings involving bigger questions or situations, ore reading for others.

~THOUGHTS ON A DECK - DECK REVIEW~
Hello Dears.
I've recently entered into a collaboration that's in the works with and will be starting to post regular deck reviews that will be shared on their website.
Hopefully these will be weekly and I'll be starting with the decks that I've had for some time.
Today I'll be reviewing my first ever deck!
DECK: Seasons of the Witch: Samhain Oracle
AUTHORS: Lorraine Anderson & Juliet Diaz
ARTIST: Giada Rose
PUBLISHER: Rockpool Publishing

The Samhain Oracle is the first deck to be published in the Seasons of the Witch series, and as it was also my first, it will always be a favourite.

Now like a trusted friend, this deck has developed with me over time to become loyal and dependable.
The book contained with it gave me my practise of interviewing decks, as the deck interview is one of the first spreads given as an example.

It works very well for reading for others as well as myself and I find people are always attracted to its energy.
The art may seem on the dark side at first glance but in a lot of the cards this is contrasted with images of light, and silver birch trees and the moon feature heavily here.
Written to help practitioners understand more about the Sabbat and its energy, some of the themes are a little unfamiliar to me as they are taken for the traditions of witchcraft practises outside of the UK and from that of the authors, but I've not often had a problem translating these and joining them into the rest of a reading.
Each card has a short verse at the bottom, and these can seem cryptic but nonetheless useful for it. These can also be used as invocations to call in the energy of the card. If a card still seems a little abstract, the book contains keywords for the overall intention or energy that it is trying to convey.

This deck is great for getting to the root of a situation, or exploring the deeper aspects of self. They say a real friend always tells you the truth, and that's exactly what this deck does.
