Why This Matters to Us as Dog Walkers 🐾
Your dog's health and safety always come first. During warm weather, heat stroke is a real risk—especially for breeds like French Bulldogs, Pugs, Bulldogs, and Boston Terriers. These dogs have shorter noses and narrower airways, making it much harder for them to cool themselves through panting.
Heat stroke can happen quickly, even on what seems like a mild day, and can cause organ failure or become fatal if not recognised and treated immediately.

New Rules coming into force.
Just to make everyone aware

From the end of June new laws come into effect around dog walking.
We have published below the current local laws. The new legislation states that fines can be up to £500 versus the current £75.00.

This post does not reflect opinion, and is purely to communicate changes to legislation. The advisory is that Councils do not have to apply the maximum fine but can do so.

In Eastbourne and Sovereign Harbour, dog walking rules are strictly managed by Lewes and Eastbourne Councils under Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs).

Because the current date falls within the peak summer season, several strict seasonal rules are currently active.

1. Sovereign Harbour Specific RulesThe rules around the marina are strictly enforced all year round to protect the waterfront environment:

Leads Mandatory All Year: Your dog must be kept on a lead at all times in both Sovereign Harbour Marina North and Sovereign Harbour Marina South.

Sovereign Park Ban: Dogs are entirely prohibited from entering the picnic area in Sovereign Park.

2. Eastbourne Seafront & Beach Rules (Active Now)The summer restrictions run from 1 May to 30 September every year:

Main Beach Ban: Dogs are completely banned on the main beaches between the Wish Tower and the Pier.Seafront Promenades: Dogs must be kept on a lead across the entire seafront promenade stretching from Holywell to Langney Point.

The Exception: Dogs are allowed off-lead on the Western Parades and Middle Parades, provided they are under control and do not cause an inconvenience to others.

Harbour Reach Beaches: On the beaches right next to the harbour, dogs are generally welcome but must remain under close, responsible control.

3. Eastbourne Parks with "Leads-Only" Rules All YearYour dog must remain on a lead at all times in the following public areas:Lakeside Areas:

The lake perimeters at Princes Park and Hampden Park.Town Gardens: Manor Gardens, Motcombe Gardens, Wilmington Square, and Howard Square.Clifftops: The grassed cliff-top areas immediately adjoining King Edwards Parade.Cemeteries: The grounds of Ocklynge Cemetery and the Crematorium and Cemetery at Hide Hollow in Langney.

4. Fines and Enforcement Dog Fouling: Failing to clean up after your dog applies to all public lands across Eastbourne and the Harbour all year round.Fixed Penalties: Council enforcement officers and beach wardens patrol these zones. Breaching any of these PSPO lead laws or failing to clear up dog mess carries an on-the-spot Fixed Penalty Notice of £75, which can rise significantly if taken to the Magistrates' Court.

Due to the ongoing heatwave for the next few days, we have reverted to our "hot weather plan"

We are halting all walks, and providing Pop-ins instead.

This is never an easy decision, and it's not taken lightly as it's our livelihood, but we do prioritise the safety of your pups above all.

During Pop-Ins it will be gentle play, toilet breaks, smooches until they've had enough and endless water supplies ❤️

We will be keeping a close eye on the weather temperatures as the week goes on and providing a service based on the pups safety.

Thankyou for being so incredibly understanding and patient during these changes.

And PLEASE ...DO NOT forget to stay hydrated hoomans, you're just AS IMPORTANT to us and your furbabies!

Weather Plan still in action for us here at Barking Mad - Dog Walking and Pet Sitting Service today.

Pop-ins being provided with gentle games and endless water provided during our visits.

We hope all your wonderful pups are doing okay in the heat.

Early morning or later evening walks are advised, and plenty of water for them to drink.

***IMPORTANT INFORMATION****

With today's and tommorow's temperatures being over 24°, we are prioritising doggies safety over the next few days and have withheld any outdoor walks going ahead.

We do have a plan in place and are offering pop-in and plays instead for individual pups.

We will offer gentle games (no running or over excitement) and offer a good ol' fuss and make sure water is topped up and given at all times during our visits.

This will eliminate the risks associated with this type of heat for your dogs.

We have recently posted a list of tips that are good to follow to keep dogs cooler in this weather, have a look and see if any would be useful 🥰
