This hike has everything! Ridges, waterfalls, exposed scrambles and views out to sea. They might not have Munro status but they’re just as rewarding and to be up there at sunset too… chefs kiss🤌🏼⛰️

A sunset to remember on the Isle of Arran🌅⛰️

Mine and Alfie’s first visit here and it definitely won’t be our last. We bagged 2 Corbetts on a route I’d pieced together for the limited time we had and it’s honestly one of the coolest hikes we’ve ever done!

The walk through Glen Sannox up to the Saddle was just over 5km, the majority of it on flat ground before a final steep section that had plenty of scrambling. Route finding wasn’t too difficult but it involved a few awkward points, especially for Alfie boy, he bossed it as usual though! The clouds lifted right on schedule too and the views in every direction were insane.

It was another steep pull up from here to the 1st Corbett of the night, Cìr Mhòr, which has a really exposed summit with a sheer drop to one side. After spending a bit of time there we continued along an easy ridge and eventually made it to the 2nd Corbett, Caisteal Abhail.

The views looking back towards Cìr Mhòr and Goatfell from here were unbelievable! The sun started to set as we heading along the next ridge towards the Witch’s step, an extremely steep descent with a bit of down climbing. Took our time here for obvious reasons, Alfie’s confidence with scrambling is something else! So proud of the wee man, smashed everything that came our way. Then it was a long walk back down in the dark, making it to our accommodation with at 12am.

An absolutely magic first night on the Isle of Arran, these hills could rival anywhere in Scotland. Some buzz being up there at sunset too, another one that will live long in the memory⛰️

222-230. The 9 Fannichs - our biggest day out on the Munros so far! 26 miles, 3,000m elevation gain, 14 hours & 9 munros bagged⛰️

I’ve spoke about big days that we had coming up for a while, and we’ve completed some routes recently that cover similar distances and timings as preparation. This was next level but it definitely held us in good stead for getting all of them bagged in a oner!

We parked a car at the end point on the west side of the Fannichs before continuing onto the eastern side to began our big day out. The first few Munros we had to deal with some poor visibility and plenty of snow showers, reaching the top of the 4th, Sgùrr nan Clach Geala, in around 5 and a half hours. From there we had blue skies and unreal views for the rest of the day!

The highest Munro on the route was Sgùrr Mòr, which was the 6th we bagged and made it there in 8 hours. We knew the hardest parts of the day were done and each Munro there after would be straightforward enough, although we still had a lot of distance to cover.

After getting the final 3 in the bag it was a long old walk back to the car, before driving back to the end point again, capping off a class day out with , &

This was the first time we’ve all met eachother too so the non stop chatting helped with making the day feel shorter than it was. Super proud of Alfie boy too! We had options of bailing at 5 & 7 but he was the pace setter for us, always leading the way and still pulling away on the lead as we got closer to the end. An amazing route with some incredible views, buzzing to get these ticked off, leaving me with 52 to go!!⛰️

Was going to do a Munro but opted for a slower start instead… and thankful that I did. Some way to start your day🌅🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
