The breath of God
In the Hebrew language there are only two words for breath. One is the quiet, soft breathing you hardly notice. The other is heavy, like that of someone who has been running a mile and is breathing loud and hard.
The word in Hebrew for the quiet breathing is neshama, it is a very soft word. The word for hard breathing is Ruach, which is hard and noisy.
Now, the interesting thing is that whenever the breath of God is mentioned in the bible think ( Acts 2 / Exodus 14 Ezekiel 37 ) it is always the noisy, strong, powerful word. if it was the soft word it would have just meant life as existence. But because it is the hard word it means life as energy!..
You know, some people exist but they have no energy. They are alive but only just.
The word Ruach means existence and energy rolled into one. Vital, abundant, powerful life. The breath of God that filled the believers at pentacost came like a mighty, rushing wind and filled them with ENERGY, moved them with POWER and VITALITY so that they were not just half alive people. They are full of vitality, and have dynamics energy. Praise him.
In this season we need to pray for the breath of God to breath on his people so that they are not just existing. That they may live.
Let us call on the breath of God as the prophet Ezekiel did in Chapter 37:
Ezekiel 37:4-7 NKJV
[4] Again He said to me, “Prophesy to these bones, and say to them, ‘O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! [5] Thus says the Lord God to these bones: “Surely I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live. [6] I will put sinews on you and bring flesh upon you, cover you with skin and put breath in you; and you shall live. Then you shall know that I am the Lord.” ’ ” [7] So I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and suddenly a rattling; and the bones came together, bone to bone.
Amen.
