'The Danny' - free tours on Sundays in March
Having started her life as the Sir Ralph Brocklebank in 1903, tugging Mersey flat barges from Ellesmere Port to Liverpool, she was sold to the Ship Canal Co. in 1922 and given a major refit in 1936; renamed 'the Daniel Adamson' and fitted out with a magnificent Art Deco Saloon to host dignitaries and corporate events. By 1984, with steam no longer viable, she fell victim to disrepair, vandals and fire. She was to be sold for scrap until a Liverpool tug boat skipper put in a cheeky offer of £1.00 for the wreck.

It’s taken many years and around 200 volunteers to rebuild with donations and £3.9m grant from the Heritage Lottery. She is now No. 15 on the Historic Ships Register and is unique in being fully operational – and she is right on our doorstep! Free tours are given on Sundays from March, corporate and social events are held, school groups come to learn about the boats and industrial history in the North West and follow a teddy trail learning about different jobs aboard.

Duck when you visit Cheeky Ice Cream in Castle Park!
An unexpected boost to a local cause has resulted from installing some new sheds with low doorways for extra customer seating.

Martin Owen installed little ducks on strings hanging from the door frame as a visual aid to DUCK so you don’t bang your head when going in. When the ducks started to take wing and disappear, Martin had the idea to sell them as a theft deterrent and then to donate the money to local causes. With great customer support, in only a few months, Martin was able to donate £533.00 to Frodsham Youth Club. The ducks are now permanently on sale and Cheeky Ice Cream are looking forward to donating to local causes on an annual basis.

A new vibe in town at No.13 - and a discount offer!
After careers in hospitality, business partners and friends of 25 years Mark Gaskell and Jeremy Peel wanted to go independent. When a former Indian restaurant became available on Frodsham High Street, they could see possibilities and rolled their sleeves up to renovate the space into a unique, shabby-chic bar.
As independent traders, they source craft beers from local brewers with their own branded No.13 craft ale as a favourite. A donation of 30p from every pint sold of No.13 ale is made to the local Round Table. They taste wines from Hammonds of Knutsford to ensure excellent varieties and will try recommendations from customers. Pizzas and charcuterie boards are served and cocktails shaken. Live entertainment is popular every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening, and Mondays offer great prizes with fun speed quizzes. Bookings can be taken for private parties and events.

Celebrating 50 years of Frodsham panto, well-known local actress Emma Cunniffe reflects on her childhood experiences in several shows, the impact it has had on her successful career and the fond memories she has of taking part alongside her dad, Frank, who was “so funny and got involved with all the panto spirit”, and her TV director mum, June, who was "a wonderful singer”.

Frodsham Panto helped me so much", Emma reflects, "I learned how to follow a script, tell a story, portray a character and perform to an audience. My first professional job after college was panto at
Salisbury Playhouse playing Sleeping Beauty, using all the skills that I had learned through my years of Frodsham Panto." As Emma took the lead in Little Red Riding Hood in 1984, she was joined on stage by another Frodsham Panto success, Gary Barlow.

Emma remembers Coward's Hotpot between shows, the fabulous costumes, wonderful hand painted sets, seven shows in a week, the community song, the boos and the cheers – all traditions that still happen today!

Lady Heyes - award-winning Holiday Park and Attraction village on our doorstep
Lady Heyes - once a local watering hole for passing tradesmen on horseback. Lady Heyes is now a thriving 15 acre site with a lot going on. Established in 1997 by Tony and Liz Faulkner, the business is still family owned, with son Mitch as Director.

There are 85 pitches on the touring field for caravans, camping and motor homes, and 43 glamping pods of assorted designs that are all built in house by the team. The Park has a lovely café and a ‘village’ of eclectic shops and businesses including home ware, candles, a jewellery workshop, antiques, records, a pottery painting studio, a soft play barn, a sweet shop and much more.
The business was awarded Holiday Park of The Year for 2024/2025 by Cheshire Tourism, and they are finalists again for this prestigious award for 25/26.
Exciting new developments coming soon are a reformer Pilates studio and 3 Padel courts in November, which will be fantastic not just for guests but for the local community and surrounding area.
Over the spring and summer months car boot sales have been very successful and the Christmas Event is taking place on 13th December.

Be Prepared with 3rd Frodsham Squirrel Scouts
For many, Scouting is a memorable part of childhood, with outdoor activities, water sports and fun in the Hut forging life-long hobbies and friendships. Now, children do not have to wait until they are six to get involved but can become a Squirrel Scout from age four.

Launched in 2021, the programme was designed for pre-school children to learn new skills, make friends and unlock hidden talents. The 3rd Frodsham Squirrels started in February 2025 and there are currently 12 Squirrels enrolled, most of whom have already earned at least 9 badges!
The carefully planned curriculum consists of 12 ‘Activity Badges’, covering cooking, safety and creativity, and 4 ‘Challenge Awards’, themed on teamwork, citizenship, personal development, outdoors and adventure. When a Squirrel has earned all Challenge Awards and two Activity Badges, they will gain the ‘Chief Scout’s Acorn Award’, which is the highest award a Squirrel can earn – a huge achievement! Previous activities at 3rd Frodsham include a treasure hunt and campfire at Queen Charlotte’s Wood, canoeing on the River Weaver, crafts and den-building. Upcoming events include a Halloween party, Bonfire Night celebrations, a special guest visit from PCSO Neil Flanagan and Bouldering at the Ellesmere Port climbing hut.

Cooking Together for our health and for our planet
Many of us grew up eating meat every day but evidence now shows that eating less meat and dairy food is better both for our own health and for our planet. The United Nations states that, “our food systems generate one-third of global greenhouse gas emissions” and encourages us to eat more plant-based foods to reduce our individual carbon footprint and impact on the Earth.

Changing our diet can be difficult which is why Climate Action Frodsham (CAF), together with Fresh Beginnings, a local community interest company, have been offering plant-based cooking sessions to the public for over a year at Main Street Community Church on Saturday mornings.
Cooking together has proven to be enjoyable and people of all ages and cooking experience have attended alone or with a friend or family member. They cook in small teams, led by an experienced chef, or tutor, from Fresh Beginnings which adds to the fun and they then take home some cooked food, plant-based recipes and various useful meal tips.
Some sessions this year have been subsidised by Councillor Mike Garvey and by Frodsham, Helsby & Elton Together. Climate Action Frodsham is grateful for their support.

Frodsham's International Children's Writer
A university summer break at Camp America started Iryna Garkusha’s journey to England when she made friends with a Frodsham lass.

Back in her native Ukraine, she fled the ruins of Donetsk, settled in Kyiv and when the Russians invaded in 2022, she was married with two small children. She had published her first book in 2020 which covered the dangers of sexting for primary school children. This sold over 20,000 copies and she quickly became well known. She followed this up with a book about dreams.

Her friend, Suzy, offered refuge and the family made their way to Frodsham. Since arriving, Iryna has made quite an impact. With her husband resuming his career and her children in a local school, she spends her time writing, mentoring other writers, reading in schools, delivering workshops including Weaver Words and on the “Danny” steam ship, as well as singing in church.

Her third published book is in English and deals with a dinosaur giving and asking for help and is dedicated to the people of Frodsham for their kindness and welcome to our community. Why not pop into The Curious Cat Bookshop for a copy of ‘Irwin’s Huge Help’, published under the name of Ira Bova.

Our Christmas Festival needs you!
Last year we welcomed over 10,000 visitors to our huge Christmas market, giant snow globe, face paints and live entertainment!
Santa greeted over 150 children and of course there was the legendary parade! Thirty elves and reindeer helped steward on the day and marshals volunteered to keep everyone safe during the parade.

Local hero retires from Frodsham Library
After serving 46 years with Cheshire's Library Service, Jenny Evans, Senior Customer Service Representative retired on 4th October. She is a well known and very popular member of the community, welcoming and assisting locals with her knowledge and warm and cheery approach.

In 2021, Jen achieved national acclaim from Unison when she was named Local Service Champion from 800 applicants from local authority staff for transforming the Library into a community hub welcoming everyone. Jen has loved her career with the Library Service and has very mixed feelings about retiring. She and her husband intend to travel and undertake another transformation – this time, in their garden. She will be very much missed by the residents of Frodsham who wish her happiness in her retirement.

Frodsham Market - Tradition Not Trend
Frodsham's market status dates back to 1279 when King Edward I granted rights to a weekly market and two annual Fairs. The market eventually lapsed, but was re-established in 1661.

Trade has evolved from the herding of animals to selling exotic fruits in the 1960s and to the purchase of the Market Charter in 1975 by the present custodians, the Don family.

The market saw coach loads of visitors in the 1980s through to lockdown in 2020 to Jeanette Don’s (Northern Markets) care and respect for the markets special heritage from 2024.

Jeanette’s sense of family runs deep with the market as Frodsham is a second home to her. The manager and long term traders have worked hard since the pandemic to revive the market and remind us of the importance of our shared history, ‘family’ connection and community on Thursdays.

The town is so fortunate to have a thriving and varied traditional market. History continues in this special place for us all to browse, purchase and meet up with friends, family and strangers.
