Revisiting Broadmoor 🏥🔒

Today we returned to one of the UK’s most infamous institutions — Broadmoor.

Opened in 1863, Broadmoor became synonymous with the treatment of some of Britain’s most dangerous psychiatric patients. Behind these imposing red-brick walls were wards, recreation halls, classrooms, sports facilities, workshops and even its own swimming pool.

Walking through the abandoned corridors today, it’s hard to imagine the thousands of lives that passed through here. Some were patients, some were staff, and many spent decades behind these walls.

From empty hospital wards and forgotten cells to vast sports halls frozen in time, Broadmoor remains one of the most fascinating and atmospheric sites we’ve ever explored.

As always, explore responsibly and never underestimate the risks of entering abandoned buildings.

Behind imposing red-brick walls and high-security fences lies one of Britain’s most infamous psychiatric institutions: Broadmoor Hospital.

Opened in 1863, Broadmoor became synonymous with the treatment and detention of some of the UK’s most dangerous mentally disordered offenders. Murderers, violent criminals and individuals deemed too dangerous for conventional prisons have passed through its doors over the last century and a half.

Walking through these abandoned sections today feels surreal. Long corridors stretch into darkness, heavy security doors remain locked in place, and empty treatment rooms stand frozen in time. The vast Victorian architecture creates an atmosphere unlike any ordinary hospital, with every hallway serving as a reminder of the stories that unfolded here.

Among the most striking features are the institutional wards, former staff areas, secure corridors and even the forgotten swimming pool, now silent after decades of use. Despite the decay, the scale of the complex remains impressive, reflecting an era when psychiatric hospitals were built almost as self-contained towns.

For urban explorers, Broadmoor isn’t just another abandoned hospital. It’s a place steeped in history, controversy and mystery. Every room raises questions about the patients who once lived here, the staff who worked here, and the countless untold stories hidden behind these walls.

As always, no vandalism, no theft, no location sharing, and leave nothing behind except photographs.

🏚️ ABANDONED CHILDREN’S SECURE UNIT

This explore was a reminder that urban exploring can be far more dangerous than people realise.

Inside this abandoned children’s secure unit we found empty bedrooms, secure medication cupboards, classrooms, communal areas and long silent corridors frozen in time. Motivational messages still remained on the walls, left behind by a place that once cared for some of society’s most vulnerable young people.

But the explore took an unexpected turn.

Our exit route involved crawling through an extremely confined loft space. What seemed manageable at first quickly became overwhelming. The space was so tight that I ended up having a panic attack while trying to get out.

Thankfully I made it out safely, but it was a stark reminder that no photo or video is worth risking your safety for.

Urban exploring isn’t just about abandoned buildings. It’s about knowing your limits, respecting the risks and making sure you always have a safe way back out.

Stay safe out there.

This explore nearly got the better of me.

The exit route involved crawling through an extremely confined loft space. Halfway through, I realised just how little room there was to move and ended up having a panic attack trying to get out.

Thankfully I got out safely, but it was a stark reminder that urban exploring isn’t always about abandoned rooms and cool photos. Sometimes the biggest danger is simply getting in and out of a building.

No photo is worth putting yourself in a situation you can’t safely escape from. Know your limits, take your time, and always have a way out.

Abandoned Community Hospital

Hidden away behind overgrown vegetation and cracked tarmac sits this abandoned community hospital, a place that once served its local community before quietly being left behind.

The entrance still proudly welcomes visitors, but nature has begun reclaiming the site. Inside, long silent corridors stretch into darkness, lined with empty treatment rooms, abandoned offices and forgotten wards. Hospital beds remain in place as if staff simply walked away at the end of a shift and never returned.

The reception area stands frozen in time beneath damaged ceilings and fallen plaster, while waiting rooms still contain rows of chairs where patients once sat awaiting appointments. Medical examination rooms remain largely intact, offering a haunting glimpse into the building’s former purpose.

Unlike many abandoned hospitals that have been heavily vandalised, much of this site still retains its clinical atmosphere. The combination of empty wards, silent corridors and abandoned medical equipment creates an unsettling reminder of how quickly essential facilities can disappear once their doors close for the final time.

A fascinating explore and a rare opportunity to document a forgotten piece of local healthcare history before redevelopment or demolition eventually erases it forever.

Forgotten Behind Closed Doors

Hidden away behind the trees sits this abandoned care home, once home to some of society’s most vulnerable people.

The corridors are now silent. Bedrooms stand empty. Personal spaces have been left to decay beneath mould-covered ceilings and peeling walls.

Walking through the building, reminders of its former purpose remain everywhere. A lone walking frame in the day room. Hair salon equipment waiting for residents who will never return. Empty offices, abandoned kitchens and long corridors fading into darkness.

The building has been left untouched for years, slowly succumbing to water damage, neglect and time. Whatever happened here, the atmosphere is impossible to ignore.

Every abandoned building tells a story. Some stories are simply darker than others.

Would you walk through here after dark?

🏥 The Forgotten Children’s Ward

Hidden away in the Devon countryside sits an abandoned hospital ward once filled with young patients, nurses and families. Today, the corridors are silent.

Fire has ripped through sections of the building, leaving blackened walls, collapsed ceilings and smoke-stained doorways. Children’s rooms now sit empty, their windows boarded over and their stories long forgotten.

Walking through the ward, it’s hard not to imagine the sounds that once echoed here – footsteps in the corridors, nurses making their rounds and families hoping for better days ahead.

Now nature, decay and time are slowly reclaiming what remains.

Another piece of Devon’s history fading into memory.
