Right. The Games are done and Scotland finished with 13 golds and 39 medals β fifth in the world.
Same medal total as India. India has 1.4 billion people. We have five million and a deep-seated refusal to be told what we cannae do. π΄σ §σ ’σ ³σ £σ ΄σ Ώ
And the city has decided it's not for calming down:
π€ Marti Pellow has moved into Kelvingrove Bandstand. Thursday, Friday AND Saturday. That's not a gig, that's a residency. Somewhere in the West End a woman has booked all three nights and told her husband it's "for work."
πΊ Real Ale Festival, the Briggait, Thursday to Saturday. Ten quid in and you get a free glass. Naebody will tell me how much beer goes in the glass. It's a mystery wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a lanyard. Don't come greetin' to me if it's a wee one.
πΌ Next week, 8,000 pipers land on Glasgow Green for the World Pipe Band Championships. They've shut three streets in Cowcaddens just to let them park. Eight thousand pipers. You'll hear them from Paisley.
πΏ And a lorry-load of statues got spotted heading back into George Square. After all these years the boys are finally getting released. Sir John Moore back on his plinth like he's just been away on his holidays.
But here's the bit you only get if you subscribe π
Every edition has π§ AROUND THE CITY β North, South, East AND West, every single week. Not just the town centre. Not just whatever's trending. Your actual bit of Glasgow.
This week in it:
π» Two Glasgow pubs made the UK top ten. The Doublet is officially the best pub in Scotland and THIRD best in Britain. The Laurieston came eighth. At this point the rest of the country should just concede.
π A corner of the Barras is now officially called Maggie's Way β after Margaret McIver, the woman who started the whole market a century ago. Took them 100 years, but they got there.
ποΈ The Shawlands beach is in its last days. Aye, still a beach. Still in Shawlands. Sand's away after Sunday, so get the weans buried while ye can.
π Plus the Govanhill Festival's big free weekend, and a wee cafΓ© in Sandyhills that just got itself honoured in the actual Scottish Parliament.
Nae postcode left behind. That's the whole point of it.
Free. Every Wednesday morning. Three-minute read. Nae catch, and I'm not selling ye anything.
