Now that show season is nearly over with just one more major event to go to (Ultimate stance) I'm reflecting on the beginnings of Motion Fifty Three in June, the photos I've taken, places I've been, the people I've met and what I'd like to do in the future for Motion Fifty Three to grow, I may do a series of posts based on things I've learned so far. On that note I want to say thanks to everyone who has supported the page so far by liking and sharing posts and photos etc, also want to say thanks to the people at UNITY and Fiats and Friends for the media pass offers.

Here's a question, what concept car should've gone into production? From seeing the Hyundai N Vision 74 and the Peugeot E Legend, it got me thinking, what other cars were we robbed of? The Gran turismo players amongst you may remember such cars as the Chrysler MeFourTwelve, the Dodge Copperhead or the Cadillac Cien, but what else stands out?

When I finally get round to getting the website up and running, I'm planning on selling some of my photos as posters, aside from having a hub for all my photos, show write ups, t-shirt and hoodie designs, the posters may need a bit of editing but this is the current selection I'm going with so far!

Cars and coffee at The Motorist

For years, car enthusiasts across the UK have called for a dedicated space where we can gather without getting a section 59 for just being there. A place to bring the family, enjoy food and coffee, and connect with fellow petrolheads any day of the week.

Since the rise of Caffeine & Machine, demand has grown for a northern equivalent, enter The Motorist, located just off the A1M. With space for 800 cars, an on-site workshop, a restaurant, café, and an expansive retail shop stocked with everything from model cars and posters, t-shirts and cleaning gear, it has quickly established itself as a hub for the automotive community.

Regular themed gatherings cater to every taste, weekly Wednesday meets and Sunday “Cars & Coffee” mornings have become staples of the calendar. The latter is a personal favourite since you never know what's going to turn up (See photos!)

On a personal note I think places like The Motorist, NY500 and C & M represent a positive step forward for the car community, showcasing it in a respectful and family friendly light. While a few outliers are inevitable, there is a shared understanding that poor behaviour won’t be tolerated.

I wish them every success and with any luck we'll see them expand into Scotland and into other regions so we all have a car hub within an hours distance.

Salon Privé photo set part five (Final part)

The year is 2006. Nintendo releases the Wii, smashing flat-screen TVs all over the world. A new thing called “Twitter” comes online. Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift is in cinemas. Audi unleashes the R10 TDI on an unsuspecting Le Mans 24 Hours grid, becoming the first diesel powered car to win the race and just to prove it wasn’t a fluke, they went on to make it a hat trick. Meanwhile, Salon Privé hosts its very first event at London’s prestigious Hurlingham Club, showcasing the most exclusive cars of the past and present. Even the man himself, Christian von Koenigsegg, appeared with the then new CCX.

Since then, Salon Privé has gone from strength to strength, never losing sight of its principal aim: “to provide specialist manufacturers and their clients with a luxurious and entertaining alternative to the current events.” As founding member David Bagley said back in 2006 — words that still ring true today — it has only gotten bigger and better.

Now held on the beautiful grounds of Blenheim Palace, widely regarded as “Britain’s Greatest Palace,” Salon Privé has found a fitting home. From the very beginning, every detail has been meticulously planned, and it shows, the event is supported by renowned brands such as Lockton Performance, Pommery Champagne and Boodles.

Even walking through the car park to the show felt like an event in itself. Parked at the roadside sat a Spyker C8. While the exact production numbers are uncertain, it’s believed only around 200–240 were ever built. The walk down the road to the palace is lined with supercars and luxury cars, leading you straight into the palace grounds.

Upon entry, guests are greeted by the Green Collection — a selection of ultra-rare cars celebrating the emerald anniversary of Salon Privé. Highlights included a one-of-one Ferrari SP90 Inspirazioni in Verde Francesca paint, an olive green Carrera GT, and the only Koenigsegg finished in Koenigsegg Racing Green.

Salon Privé isn’t the only one celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Bugatti is also marking 20 years since the launch of the Veyron, a car that shook the prestige market and snatched the production car top speed record from the McLaren F1. Fun fact: the very first Salon Privé was also the venue for the Veyron’s UK debut.

One car that stood out to me personally was the 1956 Ferrari 410 Superamerica Superfast, the only one ever made. Unveiled at the 1956 Paris Auto Show, it was built to showcase Ferrari’s ambition to break into the American market. It's styling, influenced heavily by Cadillacs and other American land yachts of the era, makes it both unique and iconic: a Ferrari with unmistakably American flair.

Naturally, there was no shortage of vintage Ferraris. Capturing two 250 GTOs in the same photo was a highlight of my year, especially with a 250 Testa Rossa parked nearby. Adding to the spectacle, the Bugatti Veyrons had their own stunning display, while the De Tomaso Owners Club turned out in force with immaculate examples of the Pantera.

Salon Privé truly sets the bar for what a luxury automotive event should be. Despite Saturday being sold out, I appreciated that it never felt overcrowded, there was still space to move, take photos, and soak up the atmosphere.

I hope next year I’ll get to spend more than just a single day there. Congratulations to the organizers and here’s to 20 more years!
