Caerlaverock Castle is a 13th-century medieval fortress located about 8 miles south of Dumfries, near the Solway Firth in south-west Scotland. Built by the powerful Maxwell family, it is famous for its rare triangular design, massive corner towers, and wide water-filled moat. The castle played an important role during the Wars of Scottish Independence and was besieged in 1300 by Edward I of England.
