Introduction to ATPL Instrumentation (Basic and Advanced) 🎛️
Why do we study instrumentation?
In the early days of aviation, a pilot’s understanding of all aspects of a flight almost entirely came from what they could see, hear and feel with their own senses 👀
But today we have highly sophisticated aircraft, flying in a complex environment often in adverse weather conditions, and over inhospitable terrain 🏔️
So your instruments are vital.
And in ATPL Instrumentation you’ll learn how they work and what they’re used for.
Let us know if you have any questions about ATPL Instrumentation?
*Padpilot ATPL theory books are now available on any device as individual editions, or as a complete set from our website*

Professor James Reason, the world-leading expert on human error, died earlier this month.
His influence is everywhere in aviation.
His 1998 book, "Beyond Aviation Human Factors," led ICAO to adopt recommendations for a systematic approach to safety, impacting everything from cockpit design to pilot training procedures.
If you’ve studied ATPL Human Performance, you’ll recognise his most famous contribution: the Swiss Cheese Model. This model - illustrating latent conditions, active failures, and multiple layers of defence - has shaped modern aviation safety.
Reason helped move aviation towards a proactive, rather than reactive, safety culture. He shifted the focus from blaming individuals to understanding systemic factors, and his "just culture" concept transformed safety management.
Aviation safety management continues to evolve, but his world-changing work leaves a legacy that benefits all of us who fly.

EASA 2020 SYLLABUS
The new EASA ATPL theoretical knowledge syllabus is on the way and our development team are busy preparing a new set of completely up to date digital manuals ready for the new EASA TK exams in January 2020.
Padpilot Partner schools will be able to start teaching the new syllabus using our '2nd Edition' digital manuals and classroom presentation slides from October this year. In most cases, the new syllabus Learning Objectives are already addressed in our existing ATPL material as we had already identified the gaps in the training requirement. But the content is being re-ordered between subjects to match the structure of the new syllabus. And we are adding many more AR-ready interactive models and animations to the new syllabus Books in order to create a more immersive learning experience for better understanding and long term memory retention.
The foundation of a student’s future flying career is underpinned by the sound knowledge and understanding gained during the ground school phase of training. We are delighted to be able to support our ATO partners in improving the quality of pilot training in the world and to help new partners in this process.
For more information about our ATPL ground school Books for the new 2020 syllabus, please contact Sales Director, Cristina Messaggi.
