UAP sightings are not a modern phenomenon.
They go back thousands of years—long before drones, airplanes, or even the concept of “flying saucers.”
One of the earliest well-documented cases comes from the Roman Republic… in 74 BC.

During the Third Mithridatic War, Roman legions under Lucullus were facing the army of King Mithridates VI of Pontus in Asia Minor.
What happened next was recorded by the historian Plutarch in his “Life of Lucullus.”

Plutarch writes (chapter 8):
“Suddenly, while the two armies were drawn up in battle array… the sky burst asunder, and a huge, flame-like body was seen to fall between them, in the form of a great silver pitcher (or in some translations, a molten vessel). Both armies, terrified, separated.”

But that’s not the only account from the same war.
A few years earlier, in 73 BC near the Dardanelles, Roman troops and their enemies reportedly saw something even more striking.
5/9
Plutarch again (this time citing multiple eyewitnesses from both sides):
“When they were preparing for battle… there appeared between the two armies a flame in the likeness of a great shield (scutum ardens), shining and sparkling, so that both sides were amazed and the fight was broken off.”
6/9
Let that sink in:
Soldiers from two hostile armies—Rome and Pontus—independently described the exact same massive, shining, shield-shaped object hovering above the battlefield.
They were so shocked they stopped fighting.

Original Greek from Plutarch (Life of Lucullus 8):
«ἐξαίφνης τῆς ἀέρος ῥαγείσης, σῶμα φλογοειδές… πίθου τρόπον ἀργυροειδές»
Translation: “Suddenly the air burst open and a flame-like body, silver in color, in the shape of a pithos (large jar), fell between them.”

These aren’t vague “lights in the sky.”
They are detailed, corroborated, daytime observations by trained military observers from opposing sides—exactly the kind of high-credibility reports we look for today.
9/9
Two thousand years later, we’re still seeing “shields,” “tic-tacs,” and metallic objects that defy explanation.
The Romans didn’t have a word for UFO—so they called it a “burning shield.”
Same phenomenon, different era.
History rhymes. 🔥🛸
