Addressing the threat of Anopheles stephensi video... in French!
Having completed the English language video about the spread of Anopheles Stephensi mosquitoes across sub-Saharan Africa. I then worked with Abt Associates to create another version of their video for PMI (US President's Malaria Initiative) - in French.
To create the French language version I needed to work with the French voice-over and script which was about 23% longer than the English version. Due to the additional length, the whole video, including animations, had to be edited to lengthen it, whilst still maintaining the on-screen co-ordination between the visuals and the narration. In addition, all the on-screen text had to be translated (including the animated country flags which had to show the correct French spelling). And finally, when the video was finished, French sub-titles were added. The result – a proper French video, not just a quick re-dub!
So why French? In sub-Saharan Africa malaria is a huge problem. French is the official language in the following sub-Saharan African countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo, the Côte d'Ivoire, Djibouti, Gabon, Guinea, Madagascar, Mali, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, the Seychelles, and Togo.
20th August is World Mosquito Day... a day to help raise awareness about the ongoing threat of malaria and other deadly diseases transmitted by the mosquito.
