The dollar edged higher in early European trading Tuesday, but remained near multi-week lows ahead of the start of the Federal Reserve's two-day policy decision meeting.

At 2:55 AM ET (0755 GMT), the Dollar Index, which tracks the greenback against a basket of six other currencies, was 0.2% higher at 90.918, after dipping to the lowest since March 3 overnight at 90.679.

EUR/USD traded down 0.1% at 1.2071, but remained close to the two-month high of 1.2117 reached Monday, GBP/USD was largely unchanged at 1.3891, while the risk-sensitive AUD/USD fell 0.1% to 0.7793, after a 0.7% rally overnight that took it just shy of a five-week peak.

The dollar was up on Tuesday morning in Asia but remained near multi-week lows as U.S. Treasury yields fell and investors consolidated positions ahead of the U.S. Federal Reserve’s latest policy decision.

The U.S. Dollar Index that tracks the greenback against a basket of other currencies edged up 0.14% to 90.907 by 12:39 AM ET (4:39 AM GMT). The index was little changed at 90.859 as the Asian session opened, after falling to 90.679, its lowest level since Mar. 3, during the previous session.

"The dollar doesn't seem to have the strength it had earlier this year," said Kyosuke Suzuki, chief of financial algotech company at Ryobi Systems. "It had been driven by various expectations, such as massive fiscal spending and speedy vaccinations in the States. Most of those appear to have been priced in."

The dollar index, which tracks the U.S. currency against six peers, was little changed at 90.947 in mid-Asian session, after dipping to the lowest since March 3 overnight at 90.679.
