I don't normally comment on "TikTok trends" like this, but this one needs saying.
Driving the WRONG WAY down motorways and dual carriageways for videos, attention and likes isn't funny. It isn't brave. It isn't impressive. It's absolutely disgusting.
Yesterday, seven people died on the A66 here in Teesside, including two Cleveland Police officers, PC Matthew Blades and PC Tom Clough. Police say the Volkswagen involved had been travelling the wrong way before the head-on collision.
Just days earlier in Ireland, five teenage boys died after the car they were travelling in went the wrong way down the M9 and collided head-on with a completely innocent family travelling towards Dublin Airport. Four members of that family were seriously injured.
Twelve people dead in less than a week across these incidents.
Read that again.
This isn't "content".
This isn't a game.
A motorway isn't your playground and the people coming towards you at 70mph are not extras in your TikTok video.
They're mums. Dads. Children. Police officers. People going to work. People going on holiday. People simply trying to get home.
You don't get to gamble with THEIR lives because you want views, followers or a few bloody likes.
As a driving instructor, I spend my working life teaching people that driving comes with responsibility. One stupid decision behind the wheel can change somebody else's family forever.
If risking your own life for social media attention is your choice, that's bad enough.
But when you deliberately put innocent road users in your path, you're risking lives that were never yours to gamble with.
There is absolutely nothing impressive about it.
My heart goes out to every family who has lost someone in these horrific incidents. No family should have to receive that phone call because somebody decided that likes and views were more important than human life.
And I'm asking everyone who sees videos showing this kind of dangerous driving:
REPORT IT.
Don't like it.
Don't comment to boost it.
Don't share it.
Every view, like and share gives this behaviour exactly what the person posting it wants: attention.
Report the video and stop helping dangerous behaviour become a "trend".
Stop glorifying dangerous driving. Stop treating it as entertainment.
No amount of likes is worth somebody never coming home.
