Team Red Cup (Reena Chotai, Henal Chotai and CEO Zaiya) finally managed to make a visit to the Hospitality Action head office London. Henal has been volunteering one Friday every month for the past 6 months as part of their Golden Friends initiative, spearheaded by the lovely Cathy.

This was a chance for all 3 of the team to give a little back as Ambassadors as we spent our time handwriting and personalising birthday cards to send to HA’s Golden Friends. A beautiful gesture, always well received in the post and a chance to see where the HA magic happens.

Henal has been calling some of the Golden Friends during his days volunteering; he gets to speak to some exceptional people, all of whom have played a role in the hospitality world and are now enjoying their Golden years. He tells of heartwarming conversations and how one lady even offered to take him on a date!

This is the beauty of hospitality; it stays in your heart long after you have left the industry but it doesn’t mean you are forgotten. That’s what Hospitality Action ensures. There’s a place for all in the world of hospitality.

Thank you to Cathy for making Reena and Zaiya feel so welcomed…the trio hope to return to volunteer again during the next school holidays!

We've all done it...

You're having a clear-out, everything gets thrown into a bag, and before you know it, it's in the boot of the car on its way to the charity shop.

We completely understand. In fact, we're incredibly grateful for every donation we receive.

But we're asking for one small favour. If you're sorting donations, could you pop items suitable for resale into one bag and items ready for textile recycling into another, clearly labelled 'RAG'?

Around 60% of the clothing donated to us isn't suitable for sale, but it can still raise money through textile recycling. By labelling those items as RAG, our volunteers can send them straight for recycling instead of spending valuable time sorting through mixed bags.

That means more time finding the hidden treasures, getting great donations onto our shop floors and raising as much as possible to support hospice care across Harrow and Brent.

It's a small change that makes a big difference.

Please Bag Your Rag.

We love receiving your donations, but please don't leave them outside our shops.

We know that every bag left for us is a kind gesture, and we're incredibly grateful to everyone who chooses to support St Luke's Hospice, but when donations are left outside our shops while we're closed, we have to treat them as contaminated. That means we can't sell them, and instead have to pay to dispose of them. Sadly, every bag in this photo, dumped outside our Waverley shop this morning, had to be thrown away.

As you can imagine, this quickly adds up to hundreds of pounds in disposal costs – money that could instead help fund specialist palliative and end of life care for local people, whether that's caring for a patient on our Inpatient Unit or supporting someone in their own home.

Please help us make every donation count by:

πŸ’œ Bringing your items during opening hours.
πŸ’œ Visiting another St Luke's shop if your nearest one is closed.
πŸ’œ Taking items that aren't suitable for donation to the local recycling centre.

Every donation can make a difference – but only if we can sell it safely.

Thank you for your kindness, your understanding and for continuing to support St Luke's Hospice πŸ’œ

πŸ—‘οΈ 2 fantastic gentlemen from harrowlitterpickers are planning on the UK’s Longest Litter Pick starting on 12th July.

Tim Dalton and Keith Hewat are cycling the entire length of the UK this summer, from Land's End to John O'Groats, in aid of Harrow Litter Pickers Charity!

They set off on 12th July, covering around 1,000 miles in 10 days, litter-picking (and hopefully join some local litter picking groups) at every stop along the way. Every last penny donated will go to a worthy cause.

All funds raised go directly to Harrow Litter Pickers (now a registered Charity number 1212579), so please do share this news and the attached poster and website with anyone you think might like to support us.

Every donation makes a real difference πŸ™πŸ½
