WHY FLORRIE & DOT

As a child I was fortunate to have many inspiring people in my life but two of them stood out to me, mainly because they were both strong individuals who were both creative but so very different from each other. Florrie was my Dad's sister and I have lovely memories of her visiting the farm in the most amazing clothes, she always looked like she had walked right out of Vogue mag

azine and was so stylish ( if not a bit inappropriate for a farm!). Florrie is the reason my lifetime obsession with blue and white China started and I still have a tea set she gave me that she had saved up for when she first started working. In later years I went to camera club with her and learnt so much with her, a really inspirational lady. Dot is my mum, she has always rolled up her sleeves and got stuck in to whatever needed doing. During the war she was a nurse, worked with her father in the garden of 'the big house" and worked on our family farm for over 60 years, in fact at 89 she still does the book work! My mum always allowed and encouraged me to be creative as a child. I would delve into her bags of vintage fabric and together we would make dolls clothes. In time progressed onto making my own clothes, although she never did pass on the knitting bug to me!
