Blood Surge by Dianna Hardy
A beautiful library in a historic, sleepy town in Hampshire is the perfect place for Sophia to settle away from a fraught childhood and forgotten past. So forgotten, she hadn’t thought about it in over two decades until an old, unpleasant lover borrows a book and an innocent chat over coffee stirs long-buried emotions.
And once those gates open, they’re not so easily shut – the crazy keeps on coming in the form of a dead woman, a ridiculously gorgeous (and frustrating) man who keeps turning up around every corner, and a party at a stately home that’s to die for. Literally.
Sophia’s forgotten history is going to have to be remembered in a race against time if she wants to save her own life. Unfortunately, Sophia’s discovering her life isn’t what she thought it was – at all. In fact, her life might not even be hers, but indebted to a twisted, dark world made up of ancient vows and blood ties ... ones she can feel surging through her veins...
This is a passionate vampiric urban fantasy from British author, Dianna Hardy, set in a quaint English town in Hampshire.

Blood Surge - A fantastic new series
Blood Surge is the first book in a new Urban Fantasy series from Dianna Hardy.
When I heard that the author was writing once more after a hiatus, I was ecstatic. I have loved every book this author has written since I first found her books in 2012. Disclaimer: The author gave me an ARC of this book before release, but I purchased this book and have received no payment for a review. This is my own opinion.
Blood Surge is an intriguing mix of Urban Fantasy and Vampiric lore. The characters are complex, flawed, and completely intriguing.
Sophia Jameson has a mysterious past. She survived a fire that killed her parents at aged six. Now 28, she finds her past has caught up with her, and she needs to understand who she is and what happened to her all those years ago.
She meets several new people including Abigail, Daniel, and Jacque, among others. Each new character brings mystery, danger and intrigue into her life.
It is difficult to find the best way to describe the way this story captured my imagination. Having read the author’s Eye of the Storm series, I had a sense of familiarity with these characters. However, the vampires seem to have a more complex feel to their relationships than the wolves in the other series. I guess it’s the blood bond they share that makes these characters stand apart.
The story took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions; happy, sad, fearful, weepy, joyful. There are several twist and turns that kept me hooked from beginning to end, making it difficult for me to write this review without spoilers, so I’ll leave it there. Speaking of the end, it does finish on a cliffhanger, setting the reader up for the second book. I, for one, am now looking forward to reading it to find out what’s in store for these characters.
Dianna Hardy is someone who writes from the heart, making it easy to fall in love with her writing. I am pleased that she is writing again, as I have missed her stories. I do understand that life is for living and it’s not always easy to sit and write when time is not on your side, or you have commitments outside of writing. Nevertheless, she is one of my favourite authors and I cherish every word she writes.
If you love Urban Fantasy, vampires (or other types of supernatural beings like werewolves etc.) with a hint of heat to the story, then this is the best place to start a new series. I don’t, however, recommend this book to younger readers under 15 due to scenes unsuitable for their innocent eyes, including drinking of blood or some explicit (but tasteful) s*x scenes.
