How I Met My Husband: Part 5 of 30
“Amaka, you won’t believe what happened,” I said, barely able to contain my excitement.
It was Sunday morning, and I had called Amaka first thing to tell her everything. She’d been asking for every single detail about my date with Gozie, and I couldn’t wait to share.
“So, he held your hand?” Amaka squealed. “Chichi, this is big! Do you think he’s serious?”
I thought about it, replaying every moment from the previous day. “I think he might be,” I said softly, almost afraid to say it out loud. “He just feels… different, you know?”
Amaka laughed. “Different as in ‘I’m meeting my future husband’ different?”
I chuckled, but deep down, her words hit close to home. Gozie was kind, genuine, and there was a spark between us I couldn’t ignore.
Later that evening, as I was tidying up, my phone buzzed. It was a text from Gozie.
“Hey Chichi, I know we just saw each other yesterday, but I’d really like to see you again soon. How about dinner on Wednesday?”
I couldn’t help but smile. He was just as eager as I was.
“I’d love that, Gozie. Wednesday works perfectly 😊” I replied.
The days until Wednesday seemed to crawl. At work, I found myself thinking about him between lessons, wondering what he was doing and what more I’d get to know about him at dinner. My students noticed my distracted smile and kept asking, “Aunty, why are you so happy?” I just laughed and shook my head, trying to keep my personal life from showing too much.
Finally, Wednesday came, and as I dressed for our dinner date, the familiar excitement and nervousness filled me again. This time, though, there was something more—a feeling that this could be the beginning of something truly special.
As I stepped out the door, I whispered a small prayer, asking that this night would be as beautiful as my hopes.
