I have a considerable amount of personal stuff to sort out like my eldest daughter's wedding, a post flood in our kitchen which after more than six months, the insurance company is only just completing and various home projects that always seem to get put on the shelf.

I'll be back on 1st September. See you all soon.

Had an awesome time last Saturday with friends at the Duran Duran gig in Great Leighs, Essex, UK. Even bumped into one of my Simmons customers! Well, that's not really a big surprise, is it?

Last year I developed several peripherals for the Simmons SDS7 and it would seem that they're now becoming quite popular. Here are four 2025 Simmons SDS7 upgrades that I’ve had in recently.

A – Dark Matter switched-mode power supply installed. Pleiades lithium battery conversion and MIDI platform installed. NC-7 noise-cancelling mod installed.

B – Dark Matter switched-mode power supply installed.

C – 120V – 240V conversion. Pleiades lithium battery conversion and MIDI platform with Tubbutec uniPulse installed. RESET-7 Power-on-Reset upgrade installed.

D - Dark Matter switched-mode power supply installed. Pleiades lithium battery conversion and MIDI platform with Tubbutec uniPulse installed. Repair of bass drum module.

E - Also shown are four AMEPs which are going out with these lovely instruments.

With the help of my (relatively new) 3D printer and my friend Tony Burlinson, I’m delighted to announce my new AT-JX-10 Mk II FSR-based replacement aftertouch sensor for the Roland JX-10.

The latest revision is NOT technically superior in any way, to my original so those who bought it, do NOT need to be concerned.

My Mk I however, was time consuming to make, expensive to pack and ship and wasn’t particularly straight-forward to install. With all the issues that were bugging me addressed with the Mk II, I’m also delighted to announce that it's 25% cheaper than the original version!

With so many benefits including a substantial price reduction, all my replacement aftertouch sensors will be similarly revised. In fact, my AT-D-50 replacement aftertouch sensor for the Roland D-50 has already been done.

You can read my updated post on my AT-JX-10 here: https://plasmamusic.com/replacement-aftertouch-sensor-for-the-roland-jx-10

After thirty-seven years, this Roland D-50 finally got a service.

Externally, it was in 'like new' condition but as you can see, the key bed in particular was in a very bad state.

While I was at it, the customer asked for my AT-D-50 FSR based aftertouch sensor to be installed.

I’ve had a flurry of power supply orders in recently so a very busy weekend.

2 x Aurora for Roland MKS-80
1 x P0004 for Roland MKS-70
2 x Galaxy for Behringer DEQ2496

The unusual number of orders caught me by surprise so one of the power supplies isn’t finished as I eagerly await my delivery of converters from Vigortronix.

I (probably) have the best customers in the world! They’re kind, considerate, patient and very polite and once in a while I get the most lovely email. This email is following the purchase and subsequent installation of one of my transformer coupled interfaces (TCI).

“Hi Alexander,

I have got the TCI today.

Thank you very much, the sound is perfect.

I made the music video on YouTube. You can check the sound quality and your device in video. Also, I wrote about Plasma Music in description of video.”

I can’t begin to express my delight at receiving an email like this but then to note that something I hand built, is interfacing the likes of DAC and Concert Fidelity equipment is truly humbling.

DIY TEST GEAR – Sometimes you can’t easily just buy that gadget that you need and while my bench power supplies have built-in current limiters, a mains current limiter isn’t a too commonly available bit of test gear. So… I decided to build my own. In fact, I’ve been meaning to build one for a while.

Pictured is my DIY current limiter in action. The naughty Randall amp has a short somewhere hence, one of the bulbs is lighting up. Yes, only one bulb is lit as the current limiter is dual-power and is currently set to ‘half power’ mode.

Welcome to Plasma Music Limited

My name’s Alex. I set up Plasma Music Limited in June 1999, which means that at the time of writing this, it’s twenty years old. Who would have thought?

My passion is music but the truth is, I like anything that combines technology and creative arts. With a background in electronics, I design and build custom electronics for audio recording studios and live performance as well as gadgets to enhance home automation systems and things like Google Home and Amazon Alexa. I also service and repair music technology like amps, synthesisers, etc. I design and build computer systems for professional creative people such as music engineers and producers, photographers, videographers and graphics designers.

I also design websites, produce graphics, offer photography services and even photography renovation.

So, if you need help or advise on any of that, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
