Marten writes:

“It’s a packed weekend of high-class action, with the start of the three-day Guineas meeting on Friday together with an intriguing card at Ascot. I’ll be giving you my each-way Guineas double in the hope of following up my profitable return in the Lincoln/Grand National and I also have something for Hexham, price and ground permitting.”

Jodie writes:

“There is something for everyone in this Weekend Bulletin. I’ve got a few fascinating Jumps horses still knocking about at Hexham and Uttoxeter on Saturday, the Punchestown Festival is rolling on with all its usual drama in Ireland, and then it’s over to Newmarket for three cracking days on the Rowley Mile. A couple of horses who really caught my eye at the Craven meeting are back on show, while I’ll be sharing my views on the two Classics.”

Marten writes:
“It’s a packed weekend of action and following my each-way return with the Spring Double I will again be going for a double in the Scottish Grand National at Ayr and the Spring Cup at Newbury. I also have news for a horse that has been laid out for a supporting race at Ayr and an unexposed three-year-old at Newbury.”

Jodie adds:
"The cards at Ayr look tricky across the two days, but I’m keen on a couple of double‑figure contenders in Friday’s handicap hurdles. On Saturday I’ll share my thoughts on the Scottish National, though I’ll be making a strong case for my main fancy in the bumper. I’ve also got an interesting unexposed type lined up at Bangor."

This week's Weekend Bulletin covers a packed Bank Holiday programme with the features being the Irish Grand National fixture at Fairyhouse and competitive action at Haydock for their series final races.

Next week's edition is our season finale with Aintree coverage. Both Marten and Jodie will share their thoughts for Thursday as well as Friday to Sunday.

Marten writes:
“I am starting to get news through for some unexposed and unraced dark horses, which I will also bring to your attention over the next two weeks, in addition to my previews of races of interest. I am excited by what I’ve heard for the new season and look forward to sharing this with you in the weeks to come.”

Jodie writes:
“The excitement really builds for Aintree this week, my favourite three days of the year. I’m already eyeing a 16/1 contender for the Topham Chase, and the Red Rum Handicap Chase looks set to be one of the standout races of the meeting, with several runners targeted specifically for it. As for the Grand National, my shortlist is down to three, and I’ll be narrowing it further over the coming days as the picture becomes clearer.”

Jodie says:
“There’s been early money for a horse I’ve had my eye on at Musselburgh, while down at Newbury I’m taking on one of the favourites with a horse who could prove a different class. At Kelso, I’m particularly looking forward to a novice chaser, and at Bangor a handicap debutant looks well‑treated off a mark in the 90s. On Sunday, I’ll be making a case for a horse who has been targeted at one of the chase finals at Carlisle.”

Marten adds:
“There are good cards at Newbury and Kelso on Saturday and I have relatively unexposed horses pencilled in for both tracks, together with something interesting for Carlisle on Sunday.”

Jodie's Jumps Journal is published each Monday. This week it has seven pages of interesting thoughts and observations. Ideal for those who like to make notes for the future. Here are some extracts to enable you to read how she writes.

She starts by saying:

"You do not need me to tell you how good the racing has been this week and there has been plenty to decipher.

We began on a high in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, where I was delighted to see Old Park Star dig deep from the last to the line, pulling clear to win from Sober Glory and Mydaddypaddy. None of the three were particularly fluent over the final flight, but Old Park Star had travelled smoothly on the leader’s heels throughout and, despite being untested off the bridle over hurdles on his previous two starts, he found plenty when it mattered to land his first Grade 1."

A little later on, Jodie writes about a couple of horses she saw in the paddock (names removed as information for clients only):
"A quick note on a few paddock observations. X and X were the stand-outs. The latter is a beautiful, scopey sort, a proper chaser in the making, while X has far more substance to his frame than I had anticipated. I had expected a smaller, compact type with plenty of power. Instead, he has great scope and strength and carries himself with real presence."

"X has a huge frame, by far the biggest in the field, but he has a lot of maturing to do and once he fills out he will be an impressive individual."

"The two negatives in the paddock were X and X. The latter looked like he had had enough for the season and was dull in his coat, while X lacked presence and did not possess the scope I was expecting."

She shares some thoughts on King Rasko Grey (here is a little of what was written):
"On Wednesday in the Turners Novices’ Hurdle, King Rasko Grey finally delivered the performance I had expected to see at the Dublin Racing Festival. That run clearly taught him plenty because he is progressing with each outing."

Looking ahead:
"At Exeter, X can go well on his Rules debut, while I’ll be keeping a close eye on X in the handicap chase at Wetherby (2.37). He’s now 8lb below his last winning mark and is one of those in the yard who could look well-treated when things fall right."

Jodie also adds useful comments like:
"He’s better than that and he could take a step forward now that he encounters spring ground. Any positive signals from the market could prove significant."

We charge £22 for the Jumps Journal to the end of the season (6 April 2026). It can be bought online, and this week's edition can be downloaded instantly.
