Jodie's Jumps Journal is published each Monday. This week it has seven pages of interesting thoughts and observations. Ideal for those who like to make notes for the future. Here are some extracts to enable you to read how she writes.
She starts by saying:
"You do not need me to tell you how good the racing has been this week and there has been plenty to decipher.
We began on a high in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, where I was delighted to see Old Park Star dig deep from the last to the line, pulling clear to win from Sober Glory and Mydaddypaddy. None of the three were particularly fluent over the final flight, but Old Park Star had travelled smoothly on the leader’s heels throughout and, despite being untested off the bridle over hurdles on his previous two starts, he found plenty when it mattered to land his first Grade 1."
A little later on, Jodie writes about a couple of horses she saw in the paddock (names removed as information for clients only):
"A quick note on a few paddock observations. X and X were the stand-outs. The latter is a beautiful, scopey sort, a proper chaser in the making, while X has far more substance to his frame than I had anticipated. I had expected a smaller, compact type with plenty of power. Instead, he has great scope and strength and carries himself with real presence."
"X has a huge frame, by far the biggest in the field, but he has a lot of maturing to do and once he fills out he will be an impressive individual."
"The two negatives in the paddock were X and X. The latter looked like he had had enough for the season and was dull in his coat, while X lacked presence and did not possess the scope I was expecting."
She shares some thoughts on King Rasko Grey (here is a little of what was written):
"On Wednesday in the Turners Novices’ Hurdle, King Rasko Grey finally delivered the performance I had expected to see at the Dublin Racing Festival. That run clearly taught him plenty because he is progressing with each outing."
Looking ahead:
"At Exeter, X can go well on his Rules debut, while I’ll be keeping a close eye on X in the handicap chase at Wetherby (2.37). He’s now 8lb below his last winning mark and is one of those in the yard who could look well-treated when things fall right."
Jodie also adds useful comments like:
"He’s better than that and he could take a step forward now that he encounters spring ground. Any positive signals from the market could prove significant."
We charge £22 for the Jumps Journal to the end of the season (6 April 2026). It can be bought online, and this week's edition can be downloaded instantly.
