Meet gorgeous Belle, who came in to see Luke to investigate a heart murmur identified by her primary care vets.

Belle won us over not just with her winning personality but also because she has a white heart shape on her chest πŸ₯°πŸ«Ά Her tail was lost to unknown reason before her current amazing owners took charge of her care πŸ₯Ί

Belle was diagnosed with stage B2 hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which is where her heart muscle has increased in size and is actually hampering her cardiac function. Belle displayed this beautifully on echo along with her mitral valve inflow pattern being reversed (the orange peaks you can see in the last picture should have a higher wave first and a small wave second, Belle's are the wrong way around).
This demonstrates that her heart muscle isn't relaxing as well as it should meaning her heart doesn't fill with blood as much and her output is then reduced.

Belle has returned home after perusing the scan room and taking advantage of the proffered liquid cat treat with some medication to help reduce the impact of her disease process. We will keep an eye on her in the coming months to assess her rate of progression πŸ€“β€

Introducing the super lovely Otto πŸ₯°

Otto is in need of a minor procedure at his primary care vets and he came to see Andrew for a recheck of his heart prior to the anaesthetic.

Otto has been diagnosed with mitral and tricuspid valve dysplasia, which means that the valves on both sides of his heart haven't been formed properly and allow a small leakage of blood backwards instead of keeping it flowing forwards. You can see the valve line in the echo picture that has a kink in it between the 2 chambers πŸ€“

Brilliantly for Otto, he has a mild form of this condition and is currently showing no signs of significant structural changes, so he can have his procedure with no increased risk from his heart condition πŸ˜πŸ™Œ

Guess who climbed in the toy box?
This is Betty a health tested CKCS puppy whose parents and grandparents and great grandparents have all been healthy tested including heart Doppler testing, blood testing and eye testing. Here at JSVC we are passionate about preventative care and buying health tested puppies is essential. We regularly heart test prospective parents every week.

Inquisitive sphynx cat Xanthe came to see Andrew recently to investigate a heart murmur found by her primary care vets.

Being just under 12 months old and having no clinical signs of heart disease Xanthe was seen under our fixed price kitten check scheme 😻 Pleasingly, Xanthe's echo showed no structural changes in her heart just now πŸ™Œ

Did you know that sphynx cats have a genetic predisposition to developing hypertrophic cardiomyopathy?? We will need to recheck Xanthe as she grows to make sure she doesn't develop the condition as she progresses through adulthood 🫢

Remember Yuki?

Yuki is the most amazingly coiffed shih tzu you will ever see 😍

Yuki came to see Andrew for a recheck of his previously diagnosed mitral valve disease at a stage B2. Wonderfully, Yuki is very stable and his medication is working well πŸ˜ŠπŸ™Œ but we did also find that Yuki's blood pressure was high. Just like in humans dogs and cats can also suffer from high blood pressure and require medication to bring it down so there is a minimal risk of organ damage.

Yuki will have a visit from the nursing team to perform a home blood pressure check to ensure the high blood pressure we found in the clinic is a true finding before we start any additional medication.

Introducing Tilly to you all πŸ₯°

Not only is Tilly a wee stunner and the *nicest* dog you could meet she is also our 6000th patient!! πŸ₯³πŸ™ŒπŸ«Ά

Tilly came to see Luke to investigate a heart murmur discovered by her primary care vets and was diagnosed with a mild mitral valve disease at stage B1. We will need to recheck Tilly to make sure her heart disease isn't progressing quickly but she is in line to have a great Christmas!

We had a fun discussion through Tilly's investigations about what her breeds may be............comment below if you think you know πŸ€“πŸ˜

Many thanks to for hosting us this day.
