⭐️ Blast From The Past ⭐️

🔦 The building, dating back to the 1860s, was originally the office for the W. H. Shaw Pallet Works, once reputedly one of the largest pallet works in Europe.

The site underwent significant changes, including the demolition of most original buildings to make way for the new Saddleworth School, which opened in 2020.

While much of the site was redeveloped, the Grade Il-listed Clock Tower building was preserved and underwent remedial work.

Discussions and consultations have taken place regarding the future use of the Clock Tower building, with inspections deeming it structurally sound.

🔦 Peter Scott & Company, a
prominent knitwear manufacturer in Hawick, Scotland, was established in 1878. Initially focused on woollen underwear and fashioned hose, the company later expanded into outerwear and sportswear. The business, known for its "Pesco" brand, gained international recognition for its quality knitwear. Peter Scott
closed its Hawick factory in August 2016 after 138 years of operation

🔦 On a country lane in a small village stands the Home of John & Sarah Ann Bennett a relic of its own past.

The Home of The Bennet family was Called Holly House which was built between 1881 & 1891.
We uncovered decades of history evolving around the Bennett Family. The family consisted of John & Sarah Ann and there 3 children 2 boys and there daughter Cindy.

The family Bible was left collecting dust and a thick register of cases wedged inside holding dates names and ages of Mrs Bennett's patients during her time as a midwife, to also read two babys of whom she delivered in 1943 were still born!

John owned his own business producing colour pigments, possibly for dyeing wool in 1881.

The textile industry had prospered in the later half of the 19th century. The fierce up and rising companies led to a decline in quality and profit margins.

Most of the leading companies in the industry decided to merge in order"to preserve the tradition and standing of calico printing and to produce textiles of a high standard at reasonable prices."

The company at its inception accounted for over 80% of Britain's output of printed cloth.

John Bennett retired aged 63 and Sarah
Ann aged 57

Sarah Ann sadly passed away in 1914 aged 63 there's no clear date when John passed away.
