UK Drone Regulation Changes - Coming in the next 12 months
From 1 January 2026, all new Open-Category drones placed on the UK market will carry UK0–UK6 class markings, replacing the old EU C-classes.
At the same time, drones in classes UK1, UK2, UK3, UK5 and UK6 must broadcast Remote ID in flight for enhanced safety and accountability.
Plus, look out for:
•100 g Weight Threshold – Remote pilots of drones weighing 100–249 g must obtain a Flyer ID; those same drones fitted with cameras also require Operator ID registration.
• Geo-Awareness (Soft Geofencing) – UK1–UK3 drones embed digital maps of restricted zones.
• Night-Flight Lighting – Active flashing anti-collision lights become compulsory.
Which of these changes will have the biggest impact on your operations? Let’s discuss below.
