Queen's Gardens vandalised already.

Hull City Council says people forced their way into the control room of the Rose Bowl Fountain during the late-May bank holiday, damaging essential operating equipment.

The fountain’s electronic system now needs reprogramming, while the fountain also has to be drained and cleaned before it can safely be turned back on.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo said the vandalism was “reckless and irresponsible” and would cost taxpayers money to repair.

The council is working with Humberside Police to find those responsible.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting crime reference 26000076036.

Drivers warned of delay to new Humber Bridge app.
Humber Bridge bosses say a new online payment system will go live on Monday 2 February, but the accompanying app will be delayed.
The bridge operator says technical issues mean the app won’t be available to download on launch day, but reassured drivers they can still manage accounts and pay tolls via the Humber Bridge website.
Paying by Apple Pay or Google Pay is unaffected, and customers can also use PayPoint locations or contact customer services while waiting for the app to launch.

A much-loved school crossing patrol officer has retired after an incredible 28 years of service, leaving behind a lasting legacy in her local community.

Joan Marriott stepped down from her role on Amethyst Road in November, having spent nearly three decades helping children safely cross the road on their way to and from Mountbatten Primary School. Since starting the role in 1997, Joan became a familiar and reassuring presence for generations of pupils and parents, whatever the weather.

Described during a special presentation at the school as “remarkable” and “always a reassuring sight”, Joan was praised for the strong relationships she built with families over the years. One parent said: “The kids have grown up with her always being there. She brightened our day with her smile and friendly nature.”

Away from her crossing patrol duties, Joan’s life has been defined by service and determination. She fostered 15 babies, adopting two, and broke barriers in her working life, including becoming the first female forklift driver at Metal Box. After years of dedication to her community and workforce, Joan is now beginning a well-earned retirement.
